I Z JSSie, by Gary Toyn After a month and a half of track, the Weber high track team is in the thick of the region track race. Weber now 2 m region meets, boasts some very strong atheletes, some on their way to winning a state crown. Head coach Dave Brooks is at his first year as head coach. Last year he was assistant coach under Gary Alverson who is now coaching at Bonneville. Coach Brooks is assisted by Glen Prisk Coach Brooks was an outstanding athlete on BYUs football and track teams. He really knows his coaching. Weight Men Webers track team has always had a strong group of weight men, this year is no different, lead by Mark Montgomery, Bruce Thorpe, Shaun Miller, Dave Green, Blain Nelson, and Kurt Stauffer. Other weight men that help round out the events are Dave Wade, Dick Viera, Kenny Williamson, Larry Thompson, Jim Mahas, Eric Burton, Tom Gardener. These athletes participate in the high jump shot put, discus or javelin. 2-- In the other field events Brian Ballif, Brent Kirby, Lyn Hendricck, Tom Gardener, Guy Dellalucia, participate in the long jump. In the pole vault, Dave Searcy, Bob Kelly, Frosty Sorenson, Cliff Modahl, and Steve Martinez all show promise. Running events In the running events Weber also has strong men too. Runners like Dave Devries, Jon Hale, Dawson Hedges, Russ Barton, Brent Carling, Kent Willy Dave Casperson, Scott Burton, Dave West, Larry Hill, Pat Jamison, Scott Larson, and Tracy Fifield run such events as the 880 mile and 2 mile run. Weber has a strong cache of hurdlers. Scott Martini, Kevin Taylor, Clay Waner and Dave Freston all have great strength. Other springers are Scott Oborn, Brian Ballif, Alan Taylor, they run either the 100 or the 220 yeard dash. In the 440, Weber has Jeff Reed, Roger Story, Benson Roper, Kent Willy, Williamson and Max Kenny Westerguard, all show unusual potential. All are well on their way to top spots on the region ladder. As the team approaches the middle of the season, they begin to train and work harder. They are just beginning to peak. So watch for these young men, they are soon to be the region champs, and possibly, state champs. on the left, represented Weber in the held last Saturday at Wildcat stadium. DAVE DEVRIES, run at the Weber State met Bonneville upends Warriors by Gary Toyn A very tough Bonneville High track team slipped by a stubborn Weber High Track team 79'2 to 6IV2 at Weber last Wednesday. The Laker team was paced by some very strong atheletes, some potential state champions. One runner, Ed Eyestone, even took a seventh place in a national meet. The Bonneville team claimed 12 of the 17 first places which gave them there high score. The Warriors did place men in the second, and third positions in almost every event. Those Warriors that did win their events, with excellent efforts were Mark Montgomery. He jumped 654 in the high jump. Kevin Taylor ran the 330 intermediate hurdles in 42.6 seconds and he also won the 220 yd. dash with a time of 24.5 seconds. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Division of Wildlife Resources office, 022 Nor 111 Main Street. to modify the cougar and bear proclamation discussed at a public hearing on March 20, 1979. The Wildlife Board will consider information from commercial fish hatchery operators presented to the Buard during its August 24, 1979, meeting. This information relates to The Board will consider a proclamation for bobcat, lynx, kit fox and wolverine.
