She offered some raisins to Pat, then stuffed one of her jeans pockets with them, dropping several on the floor. She hid the bag back under the dish towels. Carol Jean got two large carrots from the refrigerator and handed one to her friend. Then taking another handful of raisins each for good measure, the girls danced out the door, bottles clanking, in search of Bobby. Collecting The trio spent the afternoon happily collecting marigold blossoms, pounding them against the sidewalk with large rocks, scraping the mess up with sticks and mixing it with water in the big bottle and several rusty cans they found. After a couple of hours, When does Bobby asked, this start to smell good?" Pat replied reasuringly, I think we have to let it work for a day or two, like homemade rootbeer." So they hid the precious concoction in the bushes. A week later they remembered their project and went to check on its progress. A strong odor permeated the air around the bushes. Hey! I think it's ready! Pat exclaimed. "Lets get It strained and sell it. Bobby, run into your house snd get a strainer. While they waited for Bobby to get the strainer, the girls listed their prospective customers. They were confident they would make a lot of money. Soon they had several jars of evil looking, brown liquid. They splashed themselves generously with the perfume and set out to sell it, leaving the strainer under the bushes, filled with decaying marigold blooms. But after being turned down by several of the neighbors and two passersby, ;the children were beginning to wane in their enthusiasm. I bet Aunt Blanche will buy some, Carol Jean suggested. She always buys the pictures that 1 color. She even puts them up in her kitchen. She says I'm a good artist. So the two girls sold the pretty bottle of marigold perfume to Aunt Blanche for 15 cents. For some reason, Aunt Blanche seemed to be even more jolley than usual. In fact, she laughed so hard she could hardly find the money in her purse. Clutching their earnings, the girls ran excitedly to show Bobby. But they stopped short as soon as they rounded the corner of the house. There was Bobby, pouring the last of the wonderful perfume on his dog, Sandy.; Im tired of trying to sell this stuff. Besides, Sandy f needed it. He stunk! The girls agreed the dog did smell better and anyway,-thedid make a nickel each. It was well worth all their; trouble. j 1 Wedding j and engagement pictures printod free t. .1 |
