To help students gain a greater understanding of this system that is so important to our freedom, Ogden businessman, in Stephens, cooperation with the Weber Douglas School District County Foundation, generated the first annual Economics Fair, held at Weber State College last week. The North View area schools were well represented in the 400 exhibits and a number of SIR Ogden-Pleasa- these students received awards. From Lomond View, third Nicole Jensen, received honorable mention as did the fifth grade class. North Ogden Elementary was also represented in the awards with Mrs. Ruth Mannings third grade class receiving honorable mention. grader, li. A little creative writing was also thrown in with each student writing his own version of If I Were a Piece of Paper. Through these activities the students began to see some of the basics of our free Porter enterprise system: 1. To get an idea of what was involved in entering the fair, we talked with Mrs. Manning and her hird grade class, award 9.ners from North Ogden Elementary. The title of their project was: Conof servation Natural Resources through the Recycling of Paper. Beginning with the history of paper, they explored further the first writing materials used, including AND DEMAND" was the title of the project done by North Ogden Elementary School fourth graders. They then went on to the manufacture of paper beginning with the seed of the tree that was planted, to the growth and cutting of that tree, and then to the final process by which that tree is turned into paper. This brought into play our forests and the use of natural resources. At this point recycling was introduced and the class decided to collect newspaper to sell to a recycling plant. In two weeks time the students amassed a total of 1 4 tons of paper. For this they will receive about $20 a ton. Mr. Beddli, a representative of the recycling plant, visited and explained to the class. The actual recycling process and an exhibit was made to show the steps involved.
