I was thinking about why I think so much of her and decided it is because: I can call her and say, The tragedy of my life is that I was married for fifteen years and the mother of five children before I discovered that I am not cut out for the domestic bit. I can confide that my children suffer the handicap of severe laziness, are so stingy they stink, hate one One of our delightful traditions is that she will call me the first day school starts. We will go on and on, each topping the other and then perhaps, she will say, Why dont we get together and have a sandwich? Itll help to pass the time until the kids get home. Children need proper protection BY DR. LARS LARSON AND DR JOHN JACKS Your Child's Immunizations As our children grow up they are exposed to many diseases and, without proper protection, would actually get sick from a significant percentage of them. While most of these diseases are not serious, some have been associated with high morbidity and mortality and this has resulted in considerable research being devoted to development of vaccines designed to prevent the occurrence and spread of these more serious diseases. This development of vaccines has resulted in stan- dardized immunization programs for our children within the first eighteen months of their lives. The following timetable is that one use by most physicians: Two months - DPT, TOPV Four months - DPT, TOPV Six months - DPT, TOPV Fifteen months - MMR Eighteen months - DPT, TOPV (Four - six years - DPT, TOPV) The letter abbreviations used here stand for the types of vaccine given: DPT diptheria,TOPVpertussis, tetanus; trivalent oral polio; MMR measles, mumps, rubella. The really important point about these immunizations is that all of these diseases can be prevented if we, as parents, make sure that our children have all of these vaccines at the appropriate ages. It is worth noting that national immunization rates have dropped ten to fifteen percent in the last ten years and that perhaps as many as thrity per cent of our children aged one to four years havent had adequate polio immunization. The risks from this situation are all too apparant and it is up to all of us to make sure that our children have had their to prevent immunizations this trend from continuing. The following are a few ways parents can remedy this situation: 1) Follow your, doctor's instructions as to when to have your baby checked. 2) Keep a record of the Immunizations your baby gets so that you can "cctch up on those that have been missed when you see the doctor for other reasons. 3) If you can't afford the Immunizations' at your doctor's office, get them at your county health department where they cost less. It is really our responsibility as parents to protect our children from these preventable diseases, so be lure to check your child's immunization tecord and make sure that all necessary immunizations TONYA SHOLIY, Morch 1. 1977 of Mr. ond Mrs. Bill Sholly 333 N.
