Gone are four lettermen who combined for 71.8 per cent of the offense generated. Bruce Collins, the Big Sky Conference and Weber State e leading scorer with 2,019 points, is the biggest hole to fill. Collins played and started in 120 straight games and was a three-tim- e all-tim- Last season, the Wildcats had one of those years that comes once in a blue moon. They tied a school record for fewest losses in a season (3) and came within a game of tying the record for most wins, which is 27. The losses came at the beginning of the year (first game, 4 overtime loss to Utah State), in the middle (51-4- 5 loss to Idaho, WSCs only conference setback of the season), and the end (an 6 heartbreaker to Lamar University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament). Along the way, the Cats had at one time the nations longest winning streak at 18 and found themselves rated in the top 20 in early January and remained there, climbing to as high as 15th. Harper is capable of playing either a big guard or small forward. Steve Condie was the number one backup center last season as a jurior, but with the influx of junior college talent, may have to fight for a starting berth. Brian Devincenzi, who spent much of the year with the junior varsity possesses the size to play the post (6-- 215) and has extraordinary leaping ability. With more playing experience and maturity, he could be a surprising player for the Wildcats. Royal Edwards, the only freshman to earn a varsity letter during the 1979-8- 0 season, is being counted on to help pick up the scoring slack. can play both guard Edwards, at and forward.
