Turner Ive been living fortably in the ranks of the physically unfit for quite awhile now. I was perfectly happy with my lot. Being a weekend athlete suited me just fine. I preferred spectating to getting out in the middle of the action. This philosophy was particularly valuable when it came to jogging. For months, I laughed at the people jogging by in their colorful sweat suits. I chuckled as they huffed, and puffed, torturing themselves to death. I snored blissfully while they got up at the crack of dawn, and had dark circles under their r eyes all day. Then it happened. I went on a hike with a group of They ran circles around me, laughed as I M'.T'f' i . ; I1- IW i , i::' i m'W'-.'- . '."W 'll" ! L pVI iCHi MOI LAfi&FST.Q . It hung in places it wasnt supposed to, but it was warm. I peeked at the alarm clock. The phosphorescent numerals read 6:27. I gazed longingly at my pillow, still warm. I looked at my husband, who hogged all the covers the instant I got out of bed. He was planted smack in the middle of bed, snoring. I poked my nose out the door. It was threatening to rain. I might get wet, I might sprain my ankle. I might get attacked by a guard dog, or a rattlesnake slithering down the jogging trail. I took one last despairing glance at my warm bed, and was off. I began walking quickly. Warm up those soggy I told myself. muscles, Then I tried running. My legs had nearly forgotten how. I After about a block, started wondering what my life expectancy was if I this continued ridiculousness. I slowed down to a walk. This was more like it. I strolled along, puffing, panting, and pretending I was just temporarily catching my breath. What I was doing was turning slightly blue from oxygen deficiency.
