At Weber State this winter optimism for a Wildcat sports program is at an e high. Coach John Webb and his crew dont plan on letting anyone down with the caliber of wrestling team they sport. To help prepare for the tough success-oriente- Big Sky competition, Coach Webb has planned three inter-squa- d wrestling exhibition matches at three local high schools during the month of November. "The idea we have about going to these local communities and competing is two fold," said Coach Webb, First is the fact we as a Utah college are interested in local talent and seeing it develop on a college level. Most of the other Utah colleges concentrate mostly on recruiting out of the state, but we like to steadily concentrate on kids. We like to show high school kids, their coaches and the parents that we have a quality program here at Weber and wed like their consideration about coming here. The second reason for going out is that wed like to increase our fan support here at Weber. We want to show people that we have a team that is competitive and is fun to follow," said Webb. Presently the Wildcats have five wrestlers from Weber High which is a big reason Coach Webb is going back to Weber High. Those five include Lynn Jackson, who he coached his first year at Weber High; Russ Campbell, who he coached three years at Weber and was a state champion; Bruce Finch, Mark Story -- and Dave Shiney are other wrestlers who Webb coached in high school at Weber and are now in his program. Kim Peterson, who was a heavyweight wrestler at Weber State, now coaches at Bountiful High. Coach Peterson and Web are close friends and the Bountiful appearance has a lot to do with that acquaintance. Two brothers, Kary and Gary Norman of Brigham City, starred in high school at Box Elder.
