About Beaver County Correctional Facility Booking Report Home Country Slim Randies Sometimes having coffee with the guys down at the Mule Bam truck stop doesn't lead to scintillating conversation. Like this morning. Instead of the philosophy counter, the guys were dutched together at the Round Table. "Anybody read the paper this morning?" Steve said. "Not me," said Doc. But if I did, thought Doc, I think I'd see if anyone was selling a chanter in the classifieds. If a guy learns to play the chanter, he can graduate up to regular bagpipes In no time at all. Chanters sound like bagpipes without the wheezing. Even in this town, you'd think someone would be selling a chanter, right? Herb was thinking his coffee wasn't sweet enough, and added some sugar. Then he thought about sugar cane and how it grew in the tropics, and the tropics were nice and warm this time of year... hey, any time of year. And if a guy saved up long enough, he could go sit on the beach, and there were bound to be pretty women dressed In ... Ill just put some more sugar In my coffee. That's safer. Why am I here this moming? thought Dud. Here, with the guys, shooting the same old bull when I should be home working on the book. If I were any kind of a real writer, I'd have this fire inside me, and would be typing away on "Murder in the Soggy Bottoms" (what everybody else calls T h e Duchess and the Truck Driver") instead of sitting here with the same old guys, talking about the same old stuff. The IRS reminded taxpayers affected by the delay they can begin preparing their tax returns immediately because many software providers are ready now to accept these returns. Beginning Feb. 14, the IRS will start processing both paper and e-filed returns claiming itemized deductions on Schedule A, the higher education tuition and fees deduction on Form 8917 and the educator expenses deduction. Based on filings last year, about nine million tax returns claimed any of these deductions on returns received by the IRS before Feb. 14. People using e-file for these delayed forms can get a head start because many major software providers have announced they will accept these impacted returns immediately. The software providers will hold onto the returns and then electronically submit them after the IRS systems open on Feb. 14 for the delayed forms. Taxpayers using commercial software can check with their providers 'for specific instructions. Those who use a paid tax preparer should check with their preparer, who also may be holding returns until the updates are complete. Governor Tells Feds Utah Knows Best on I Healthcare Reform • SALT LAKE CITY - Utah J Governor Gary R. Herbert ; recently joined 32 other governors and governors-elect in a :< letter to President Obama and ii Congress, requesting states \ control healthcare policy and budgets. "Only two years from the certification deadline and we are still waiting for clear federal guidelines," Governor Herbert explained. "One thing is dear— the federal package fails to recognize vast differences between states. Utah knows best what is best for Utah." In the GOP governors' letter to federal officials, Utah cited the overall cost to implement the Patient Protections and Affordable Care Act Medicaid provisions, totaling $1.2 billion in state general funds over ten years. The governors requested immediate action to insure states have the flexibility to control programs and make budget decisions. "The uncertainty of Washington's non-solutions only exacerbates Utah's budget challenge and keeps us from finding real solutions," the Governor said. "Utah was well on its way to implementing comprehensive, meaningful health system reform. But since the Affordable Care Act passed, Utah has to slog through the mire of federal confusion." "What we need is not a onesize-fits-all federal solution that hurts states and our economies," Governor Herbert explained. "We need healthcare reform that encourages state innovation and recognizes the'; vital roles states play." Most other returns, including those claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), education tax credits, child tax credit and other popular tax breaks, can be filed as normal, immediately. The IRS needed the extra time to update its systems to accommodate the tax law Due to popular demand we changes without disrupting other operations tied to the filing 'are changing the hours once again.
