'' I wanted to write concerning the Belknap pickup area by the main doors on the south side. , I went to Back-to-School Night and heard the normal drivel about how we are asked to not park on the opposite side of 3rd N and wave our children to come acrciss to us as we wait in our parallel parked cars. Yes, yes, I understand it is a one way street with parking on one side only and that ignoring these requests is hazardous to our children's safety. So wha* if we have had too many close calls to count, nothing has happened yet. 'Nothing wijl happen to my child. I am the exception to the rule. There are no exceptions. I felt sick listening to Mr. Fails saying we have had close calls already this year. I felt sick for the family of the child that won't be the close call. Does anyone really want to be like me? Do you want me to describe what it is like to walk into an emergency room knowing your child is dead? Wow it feels to strip bedclothes then wash them and put them away because one little one will never sleep .there again." Counting1'" plates for dinner and always coming up. one short br doing laundry and coming across a lit-;. tie shirt that needs to be given away because your baby was run over coming out of school to run across the road to you *at your instructions. How will' it feel to watch this happen, or to know the person that did it accidentally because the student was too small or quick to be seen. What will you think of that person and yourseif? What about the "what ifs". ' Losing a child hurts. It hurts beyond description. Keep your children as safe as you can by obeying what the elementary picH up and drop off policies. Park in different areas, let your child walk across the lawn or across the cross walk to get to you or to school. Being by the front door is way overrated. Life is hazardous enough withput'parents asking children to do r something dangerous like darting across^ a busy street or behind cars that are backing out. I should know. My boy is gone.
