Prices in Utah dropped as low as $ 1.45 over the Christmas holidays so this increase of almost 20 cents in a few weeks is very troubling for Utah motorists. "Healthy fuel inventories, coupled with negative trends in retail sales, corporate profits, housing and employment, all point toward lower, not higher gasoline prices at this time," said Rolayne Fafrclough, AAA Utah spokesperson. "While higher prices may be sustainable later this spring, current demand and supplies should keep prices low right now." The national average price is $1.79, a 9-cent increase from last month's report on December 9. This is $1.28 lower than a year ago. Alaska has the . highest average price at $2.51. "With concerns about the economy, motorists are continuing to keep a tight control of their gasoline usage," said Faircfough.
