SUBSCRIPTION 435-438-88- First Birthday Madison Rae Hathaway turned One on July 5, 2004. She celebrated with her brothers Taylor and Jared, cousins Brock Gavin and Trey, and other family and friends. She enjoyed her cake, gifts and the fireworks. She is the daughter of Jason & Kim Hathaway, granddaughter of Cliff & Sue Carty, and Judy Lee Hathaway and great granddaughBrumley ter of JR and Cleta Boone and Jim & Ruth Knoblock and Happy Birthday Maddie, we love you! PCBRA Beaver rain! Hallelujah! The last Saturday really brightened up the Valley. Everywhere will be mighty green and pretty for tne 24th. Didn't 2004 Grand Marshal s it "Taking Bull Riding to the Extreme" Beaver County Fair downpour Mr. & Mrs. LaVar Atkin are so proud and honored to be the Grand Marshals for the 24th of July, 2004 parade. LaVar is the son of Jedediah & Ettie Smith Atkin of Beaver, and Mildred is the daughter of John P. & Lucille Beck Murdock of Beaver. They both graduated from Beaver High School. LaVar was always doing carpenter work and after graduating he worked one year building the Kearns Army Base in Salt Lake. In 1942 he was drafted into the Army Air Force during World War II, took basic training at Kearns, served one year in the States and two years in Norwich, England. LaVar came home from the service September of 1945 and started dating Mildred while she was a senior in high school. They were married in the St. George Temple October 10, 1946 and will soon c elebrate 5 8 y ears o f m arriage. They h ave f ive s ons, o ne great grandgrandchildren, twenty-nin- e children, with 'one more in the oven. Mildred had always loved music and during her school years she mastered the violin. She has played at graduations, wedding receptions, funeral and other civic events. She has been on program committees for her Church, The American Legion and served as President of the Legion Auxiliary. She has served as Stake Laurel Leader, and Relief Society President. After working at the Beaver Drug for years, she retired in June of 2001. LaVar served in his Church's Elders Quorum Presidency, 15 years as Sunday School Superintendent, 9 years as Assistant Ward Clerk, and as Assistant High Priest Group Leader. He was Commander of the American Legion Post 32 for 2 years and has been Sgt. of Arms for over 40 years, taking charge of all Military Funerals, etc. LaVar established "Atkin Construction" back in 1960 and his sons and grandsons are still carrying on with the hammer and n 24-2- 5 nails. Annual Installation Meeting The Beaver Betterment Club held their annual Installation Meeting on June 30th. Many members attended and 35 new members were welcomed into the club. New officers were installed. They are: President: Kathy Hendricks, President Elect: Jennifer Va'entina Ferguson, Treasurer: Twinkle Erwig and Secretary: Jenifer Erickson. The Betterment Club is a woman's community service club that gives many hours of service to Beaver throughout the year. Some of the projects they are involved in are: $500 scholarship to a senior girl, organizing a Halloween Carnival, Christmas Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, ana the Senior Tea. Dell Womanhood Recognition J. Evans, 89 passed away peacefully at the Beaver Valley Hospital July 16, 2004. Dell was born in Minersville March 27, 1915 to John C & Caroline Osborne Evans. He married Annie Loretta Baker April 26, 1937 in Northcreek, Utah and their marriage was solemnized in the St George LDS Temple three years later. He resided in Northcreek were he farmed and raised cattle. He was active in the Northcreek Irrigation Company. He worked for the CC's on projects during WWII and at Sulfurdale as a He welder for many years. and enjoyed fishing, hunting family get togethers. He was a High Priest in the LDS Church and held many positions throughout the years. He will be missed by his children: Ray Dell & Linda Evans of Portland, OR., Elmer & Kara Evans of Beaver, Carlyle & Kari E vans o f B eaver, S hirleen & Dennis Bond of Meadow, and Brent & Gail Evans of Enoch. He has 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great, Three great grandchildren. brothers, Lyle & Shirley Evans Beaver: Award Kim the Roberts, Don of and Bishop daughter Debra earned the Womanhood in Award the Roberts, Young Recognition Beaver 4th Ward on July 18, 2004. This very accomplished and active young woman will be a Sophomore at Beaver High School and participates on the basketball team, volleyball and the team, javelin in track. She also qualified for and attended the National History Fair in Washington, D.C. The Young Womanhood Recognition Award, akin to the Eagle Scout Award, demands time, effort, and dedication. The Award requires the young woman to complete 42 Value Experiences and a total of 70 hours in Value Value Each Projects. Experiences often takes two weeks to a month to complete and includes: service to family and others, incorporating righteous values into the young woman's life, and many other worthwhile goals. Kim has worked diligently toward this Award. Her parents, friends, and leaders congratulate her. Good work, This year it will be on Saturday the 24th of July.
