Box num- -' on mail intended for delivery in Beaver, Utah. First, let me clear up some of the incorrect statements .ide by Ms. Verhaeren. The L ijgest one is that "postal workers here know everyone and the ,.. numbers associated with each one". This could not be farther from the truth. Yes, we do !.y to know everyone and their ox numbers but with 0 month this each simply changes ic not possible. Next, "New postal employes have always been quick to pick up on the system and in tv.ct new workers seemed eager to take on the challenge". have en the Postmaster here for 23 i .ars now and in that time have iMied seven new employees. ni't think of any of them that Live been able to master "the system" in less than three ars. As far as being "eager to t,.e on 'the challenge", yes we do try hard to put a good face on .3 effort but it is not easy for iybody to put 1700 names and ouses and children and in : me cases grand children, to a I ii : Yours truly, Isl Leonard P. Beaver County School District received this letter in response to information presented by the Carolyn White I i Group: I Haynie & Company Certified Public Accountants ' 1785 West Printers Row Salt Lake City, UT 84119 (801)972-480- 0 March 9, 2004 Superintendent Henry Jolley 291 North Main Beaver, UT 84713 P.O. Box number. us our P.O. Box v,y of determining v This letter is in regards to issues that have been brought up by certain individualsgroups in regards to the School District and prior years' audited financial It is our understatements. concerns relatthat the standing or findings to items ed various within the financial statements as a result of our audits. These items included reporting in relation to the AFR and APR annual reports, bonding of the Business Administrator, FDIC coverage, budget compliance, and concern over the reduction of cash in relation to previous years. We present the following in answer to these concerns: Then she stated that "some our c orrespoiiueuib nave n u number not in the phone book, ii t through information, not by dling the Postmaster directly" -- -- L'OW THAT'S NOT TRUE. .ve never declined to give a c. riect P.O. Box number over Ui3 phone. If don't know it will ;k each of my clerks and if ey don't know it will check the ow listing record but we always irj to help in this area. What's ony with asking the person, .ecily, what their P.O. Box I I I ".! . umber, is? The final two misconceptions are: 1) That "should our .cal Post Office receive sophis-- i and 2002: Please note 2001 i cated equipment that sorts the mail by P.O. Box" - The machines that do this cost many millions of dollars and they are located in Salt Lake and Provo. An office the size of Beaver will never have any such equipment. 2)" Since Beaver Post Office has it's own cancellation machine"' the electric cancellation machines were removed from our office over two years in) Yes we do hand stamp local mail and then deliver it but only the mail that is placed in the BEAVER DROP BOX. All the rest of the mail goes to Provo to be cancelled and sent on to the correct office. And that should answer your final question "I have to wonder why some letters are sent out for cancellation and others stay in Beaver." If you put a Beaver letter in the . "OUT OF TOWN" box it will- go to Provo and be cancelled up there. That's probably what happened to your city bill that received a Provo cancellation. Finally let me assure you will not forget my custhat tomers. know as many of you as rny aging mind will allow and learn more every day. What I I don't understand is why people don't use their correct P.O. Box numbeis. All we are trying to do is to be more efficient and that saves money. Nobody likes to see postage rates increased, least of all those of us that work in the Post Office. If a box number is used then we only have to handle a letter one time. If not , that our Independent Auditors' Report rendered a "clean or opinion for the District as of June 30, 2001 and 2002. As far as the concern with the Federal Deposit Insurance School the Corporation, District's cash is insured up to $100,000 per financial institution. There is not a requirement that the District have all funds insured by the FDIC. There is simply a disclosure requirement The related to the funds. requirement is that the funds be deposited into a qualified institution approved by the Utah Money Management Council. The District was in full compliance in relation to this concern. The District's investment funds bank are invested in accounts. As far as the concern with the Annual Financial Report (AFR) and the Annual Program Report (APR), these reports should mostly tie, and do, to the audited financial statements. these However, . sometimes reports will not perfectly tie because of the different descriptions, line items, columns, and rows on the reports verses those same items on the audited financial statements. These reports are required by the Utah State Office of Education. If they had problems with the reports, they would let the School District know. Also, these are only informational reports for the State Office of Education to be used for their purposes. In regard to the concern over the reduction of cash in relation to previous years, it should- be noted that excess cash that the District had been carrying has been utilized for capital improvements, including the new high schools in Beaver and Milford and new elementary and schools in Minersville Milford. These schools were in great need of replacement. The District has done an excellent job in providing the highest quality of schools for its students. In summary, the District has been doing an excellent job in managing and safeguarding the assets and finances of the District. The District should be complemented for the recent and greatly needed improvements to the school sites. She told about a molasses pitcher owned by Catharine Horrocks. When she left England she carefully packed it away and brought it with her, as a reminder of her home in Scotland. Our lesson was given by Hazel on Salt Lake County. Nine men from the first pioneer co. of 1847 entered the Salt Lake valley on July 22, 1847 to explore and find a suitable campsite where crops could be planted. These men included Orson Pratt, Geo. A. Smith, John Brown, Joseph Matthews, John Pack, Porter Rockwell and Jesse Little. The wagon wheels had hardly stopped rolling when Brigham Youngs attention was turned to dividing this vast desert land among the pioneers of the Great Salt Lake. In 1849 the leaders decided it was time to divide the county into wards, at that time they had 21 wards. Hazel touched- on some of these.
