It was created by the action of the Virgin River. Back in the 60's forty energetic hikers found ourselves started on a hike through such a canyon. We were led by Dan Joseph, a well known Beaver hiker and explorer, who loved to take a group through such places each year! We were all up early dressed in our hiking clothes with gym shoes on anda walking stick to help us make the journey of 16 miles through the canyon, wading all the way over fallen trees, deep holes and many obstacles. Those that walked faster left little notes in the sand as they went along. Maybe a sock or some message. I'll never forget Pearl Thompson with her pillow hat she used when we stopped for lunch and Ina McQuarrie with all her paraphernalia. Louis and Myrl Lessing, J.D. and GlennaOsborn, Roy and I kept up a good pace so we thought! Larry and Kathy Call, Alvin Yardley, my two sisters and niece Robin Cassidy were in the group. It had been rainingthe night before and we noticed muddy draining into the river from of the banks that made us a little nervous as Roy tried to hurry us faster, knowing the danger of a flood and no high ground to climb for safety. We met a group of young people from the Salt Lake area that were camped on a shady little knoll for over night. We hiked until 4 :00 P.M. in the afternoon and were thankful we made it through, although we were pretty stiff and sore. We were met by Ruby and Karl Grimshaw and Nancy and many others with their cars for the journey home. The sad part was the next day the news came that the Salt Lake boys and girls were trapped in a flood that come down in the night and drowned them, bringing cattle and everything in it's way. Now as we look back we were lucky to make it back safely. Schedule T-B- all Tuesdav.MavlOth Pizza French Fries Pickle Cherry Cobbler Milk Mondav.Mavl6th Wednesdav.Mav 1 1th 5 P.M. I Happy Mother's Day I I From All Of Us At I I The Beaver Press I Edmundo (Ed) Corral, age 62, passed away on Monday, May 2, 1994 in Saginaw, Michigan. Born on August 10, 1931 in El Paso, Texas to Jesus and Elisa Contreres Corral. Married on October 17, 1953 to Mary Dell Calvert in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, at the New Post Chapel. Ed served during the Korean Conflict as a Forward Observer and left the army with rank of Sergeant. He worked as a steel fabricator in the shop and as a field foreman. He enjoyed all of his many-facete- d jobs from the music center in Los Angeles, the Feather River Pumping Station, San Diego Hospital, and It's A Small World for Disneyland. He loved to build, and passed his contractors license for Utah. He served as Junior Commander of the V.F.W. and was in the Jeep Patrol before ill health prohibited it. He liked to hunt and fish with his children and grandchildren. He liked people, never meeting a stranger. His greatest pleasure in his last years was the family dinners where he sat as head of the family, but where he could always be counted on to have one of the "littlest" Corrals to preside with him, on his knee. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Dell Corral of Beaver; his four children Naomi and Terry Lamb of Beaver; Jennine and Mike Hernandez of Covina, California; Lisa Corral ofBeaver; and Eddie and Jenny Corral ofBeaver. Grandchildren: Christopher, Jessica, Lee, Marie, Teresa, Amanda, Brian, Tiera, and soon to be here Edmundo Cole Corral; Brother Orlando and Esperanza Corral and nieces, nephews and friends. One 1 1 --year-old gentlemen in my 6th grade was an ace athlete. The other kids longed for Kent tobeplaced on their team. He was their ticket to fame. Winning the game was a sure thing. With him, there was even a chance of beating those increasingly brittle-bone- d fossil teachers in the Soccer Spring Superbowl. Needless to say, Kent's was rather healthy. Or so it seemed. ThenPetetransferredinfrom another school. He was good. When he was a goalie, nothing got through. When he was dribbling, no one could take the ball away from him. He was a new star, and Kent saw, for the first time, a threat to his status. self-estee- m grounds. Kent was caught tripping. Pete would get mad and push. Kent was visibly disappointed when Pete would score even when Pete was on the same team. When I questioned Kent, he fairly hissed, "Hethinkshe's so hot. I hate him!" It took a long time to work out this relationship. They never actually became friends. IVe always wondered what could have prevented such animosity. I think a lot of the problem had to do with the way Kent defined his success. It was always in terms of being better than someone else. His depended on his ranking in the group. self-estee- m It's a great temptation for parents to pride their children on teachers and a "good", "better", "best" scale, but it does them a disservice. In a given situation, there will always be someone we can beat and some one who can beat us. A person's should come from knowing he's done hisbest; from knowingthat she'll be valued, even when someone does better. Praise and recognition need not be jealously hoarded. Every child should have a chance to be a star. Hospital Happenings Diabetes is a serious disease with many long term complications. It was a great feeling to receive all the support from you that I did. I am looking forward to the Primary Election in June. I would also like to address a few concerns and let you know of my intentions. It was not my goal or desire to upset anyone when I filed for this office. I believe that we need qualified people in this important position. People that are willing to become involved and make decisions in the operation of our county government. People with new ideas and enthusiasm. People who are willing to OOSINM listen to suggestions and then make things happen. I believe I can do these things and have filed for this office. I will represent each of you fairly as citizens of Beaver County and become totally involved as a Commissioner. Recently, I have been elected to serve a second term on the Beaver City Council. If I am elected to the County Commission, I would resign from that position. I feel the past years served in city government would be a great asset to all the cities and towns. I feel we all need to work together as one to make Beaver County the best it can be. Sincerely, Robin Bradshaw Beaver. Utah MoiAei'd 2)ay Gdehation Free Plant to all Mothers. Bring the whole family.
