He is the one who makes America different from any other land. With three generations of cattlemen in the family, we talk a language of our own. It's a common thing to see one of , ' . Adult Leadership School and dancing. . Jodie. .Tifiwl Dana Osborn To Wed Brent Baker October 28, 1988 - (. TOYS HAVE ARRIVED iiTOMP , Chit Chat them staying up half the night taking a stream of water on their land or doctoring a sick cow. They have fond memories of the good neighbors who offered a bed and hot meals when they were trailing cattle from ranches in Beaver to their ranches in Panguitch. No one will ever know how good that big high back wooden bed felt with the feather tick after a long day on the trail. Even an old flat iron at your feet that had been heated to ward off the cold winter night felt good. We enjoyed a winter we spent in Hatch Town. The men would get up early and feed the cattle and hurry back to a warm fire in the old black cook stove. Many, an .evening .we. spent dancing in the big empty front room of the old two story house, to music from a wind up record player. It was always fun to talk about when we went hunting pine nuts. We were teased about not knowing pinenuts from sheep tracks! And also how we put them in the soup to flavor it, instead of sage. Yes, many changes have taken place since our experiences on the ranches of Panguitch and Hatch. Fifty one miles is a long way to drive cattle on horse back over rocky trails, deep ravines and over high ledges. The Cowboys would get up at dawn, saddle "Old Brown" and head down the creek bed lane to round up the little "white faces" for their long trek. They knew each Herford cow and which calf belonged to each cow. It was all in a days work. Each summer, winter or fall they made the same trail back and forth to their ranges over the mountains. Gone are the days of such travel but never to be forgotten, especially when a blizzard would strike. How their hearts would ache to see those calves floundering in the deep snow trying to keep up with their mothers. As we trail this highway now I think to myself, "over this trail passed Cowboys who laid the foundation of a western empire." No monument will ever be built for them. Only a lonely old two, storied brick house, along the trail which still stands, with the wind whistling through the broken windows panes can tell of the old cowboy's journey. On October 10th thru the 12th, four ladies from Beaver went to Logan to attend the Adult Leadership School, Beaver with Extension County Agent; Miriam Limb, other members attending where; Tracy Bishop, Alice Bishop, Jessie Roberts. The classes they attended were all dealing with families and communities. They had a fun time and they hope others will join them next year. Nancy K. Camp The Nancy K. In the absence of Captain' Devona Griffiths, Donna Spencer; Vice captain took charge,',ofthe meeting. The pledge of allegiance to the flag was repeated. The opening' prayer was given by Daughter Jessie Ward. Under the direction of Chorister,' Peggy Ruesch,' and accompanied by a tape, two . different! songs were sung: Ode to the Pioneers, and When They're Gone Do Not Forget Them. ' mmufes-- The of fifthly 3, 1988 meeting were read and approved. Peggy Ruesch, Beaver County President, encouraged the members to submit any material of pioneer nature that would be appropriate for a, scrapbook. She also encouraged each member to submit a short personal history to be sent to the National Organization of the DUP. The September and . October lessons were presented by Lesson Leader Thelma Goodwin. ' The September lesson ' was entitled, Year 1888. Highlighted were many happenings during that year, including efforts toward statehood of Utah, missionary work started in the Manti Samoa, Temple dedication, the founding of stake acadamies, the founding of Utah State University as a land grant of three college, highlights prominent LDS leaders, David Snow Erastus and Whitmer, Zerubabbel Snow. Many converts arrived monthly in the Salt Lake Valley. The October lesson was entitled: Immigrant Pioneers. The life of one of these pioneers, Rasmus Peter Christensen was presented by Duaghter Peggy Ruesch. There was much of sadness and trials in his life. A number of his children died in early childhood. He lost several of his wives. The lessons were very informative and interesting. At the close of the meeting, the hostess served a dessert.
