County. Utah County was third, with a payment of $1,396,922.74. UP&L's taxes, along with payments from other citizens, will help pay for municipal and county services. Additionally, about half of the property tax payment will go to the Uniform School Fund to help support education in the state. County officials are being notified that about 9 percent of UP&L's taxes are being paid under protest this year because the company disagrees with the state's total assessed value of UP&L property. If the company is successful in its appeal to the State Tax Commission, UP&L's total tax bill for 1986 would be lowered about $2.7 million. A large crowd attended the open house to see the Geriatric Wing of the Beaver Valley Hospital last Sunday, November 30, 1986, when an inspection was held for the community. There were fine comments and so many voiced approval as they viewed the modern facility and the tastefully decorated rooms of the sixteen bed wing. Modern bathing facilities for the handicapped and common multipurpose room and nurses station were met with much the same approval as the spacious beautiful patient rooms. The remodeling and improved existing hospital facility with a new laboratory, new medical records storage area, and remodeled kitchen and dining area and enlarged storage were also visited. The hospital staff had everything in beautiful condition and they served delicious refreshments in honor of the opening. The Geriatric Wing was only a dream in the fall of 1983, when the Farrer family petitioned the Hospital Board and Beaver City Council for a facility that would be available to take care of the elderly in our community. Mayor Robert Christiansen said that if those petitioning were to bring a couple of hundred signatures on a petition it would show the city fathers that the community was interested in building such a facility. The Fairer family and others turned in 694 signatures in the fall of 1983 which proved the need for this on-sig- facility. In the spring of 1984, Louise Farrer was appointed to the Hospital Board and the long process of meeting the approval from the state was begun. In February of 1984, meetings with the Utah State Health Department verified Beaver's need for such a facility. There were many e applications and much before approval could be secured. A few weeks later, a number of the Hospital Board and Staff traveled to the Salt Lake area to visit some of the nursing home facilities in that part of the state. On October 23, 1984 Beaver City voted bonds to construct the Nursing Home facility. The bond passed and red-tap- though it has been delayed because of plans and specifications, on January 30, 1986 bids were accepted with Riley Construction getting the bid for $679,000. Riley Construction should be congratulated on the fine job and though the finish date was to be December 24, 1986, it is refreshing to know that our local construction company did so well and finished before the dead-linThe citizens of Beaver are justly proud of the Beaver Valley Hospital and this new addition brings promise of continued care for those who need Ownership Proof Required For Christmas Trees The Division Forestry wishes Utahn's a happy holiday season! Beaver Banter By Rhoda Sullivan Now that the Christmas season is just around the corner and everyone is busy with shopping and planning for that ultimate day of giving, I wanted to say how much I admire the ladies who are so artfully motivated. I am a fair cook and a mediocre baker, but never have I been a crocheter, a knitter, or a seamstress. Why?, you ask. Well, it's pretty difficult when you have fingers that are all thumbs and eyes that see all kinds of things in craft stores, but don't have the foresight to make anything out of them. My culinary arts, only fair after many years of practice and trial and error, have been put aside for the moment, for I discovered that I could make hoops out of fabric Christmas scenes and lace. How excited I was! With the help and guidance of the ladies at Lunds, I completed four sets of them for Christmas giving. Not only did I take them all over town to show, but have shown them to everyone who comes to the house. They'll no doubt be worn out when the time comes to wrap them. Again, let me say how much I admire the ladies for being able to come up with their ideas for putting things together for gift giving. I'll keep trying too, for there's a sense of pride in exhibiting the finished product and to know you did it your d for my part, with very own lots of help for which I'll be eternally grateful). self--(an- Supplemental Flu Shot Clinic Dec. 10th Taiwan A vaccine, a supplement to the standard trivalent influenza vaccine will be available Wednesday, December 10th from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00.
