And as part of our highly complex society, freedom of all types of communication is essential to maintain a social organization that can adapt to constant change. Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, "Freedom of conscience, of education, of speech, of assembly are among the very fundamentals of democracy and all of them would be nullified should freedom of the press ever be successfully challenged." Relief Society Birthday Party was held March 18, 1980 Our political leaders must pull their snouts out of the federal pork barrel and do battle against MX. This is not simply another pork barrel goody of money and jobs to grab for our state. It represents a grave threat to our way of life and to life itself. In this election we should not be impressed with Congressional or Senatorial committee chariman who brag about bringing industry here; if power is had by our representatives in Washington, let them prove it by defeating MX. If we are angry about the Weteye bombs, we should be furious about MX! Rejecting Weteye and then accepting MX with no more than a whimper and grumble is like refusing the advances of Cheetah the monkey and going to bed with King Kong. If our President needs to cut his budget, with he surely does, The General Accounting Office, which just recently informed us that MX will cost twice what the Air Force has said, 56 billion dollars, can tell him where to start: by eliminating theMX boondoggle. That is one way to help inflation and enormously cut spending. . Celebrated . . Bartholomew. Medley, "In My Sweet Little Alice Blue Gown, Mocking Bird Hill, and Put on Your Old Gray Bonnett" by Anona Swindle-hurand Esta Warren acc. by Ireta Baker. Closing prayer by Donald Baldwin. Everyone had a good time and sister Harris thanked all who took part on the program making it a very special evening. st When shopping with our SMITH fS.KTUKB: Ad- vertisers, please tell them that you saw their Ad in The Beaver Press! Ducks Unlimited Continued from Page One 1937, DU's objective has remained the same. In fact, the increased awareness and scrutiny of current wildlife problems program. For the challenge facing wildlife today can be summed up in these words: disappearing habitat. Since 1937, Duck Unlimited has constructed over 1,500 wildlife habitat projects. These represent over 2.7 million acres and approximately 10,600 miles of shoreline. We have had to raise ove $88 million for this effort, most of it at the grassroots level where we now have a membership in excess of Ducks Unlimited 285,000. now has over 1,200 volunteer committees. It has been the goal of Ducks Unlimited to put 80c out of every $1 collected directly to work for its intended purpose in Canada. Out of the remaining 20c comes all funds for field operations, membership services, and promotion and education. A scant 4 percent is spent on administration. Still this proud record of accomplishment has not overcome the challenges that face our waterfowl population in the future. In fact, some biologists have estimated that additional millions of acres of habitat may be needed to stabilize the continental waterfowl population! Adding to the burden is a race against time. With growing pressure from agriculture, industry and urbanization, the last opportunity to set aside available land for wildlife is upon us. That opportunity may very well soon be gone. That's why DU believes that the time act is now. We thank you deeply for your interest and participation.
