Anyway it gives me an excuse to talk to Kim and Lynn, the two good looking gals who work at the 1 press. Then too, my friend Robyn Marshall in one of her more exuberant moods con me into thinking that she enjoyed reading about my escapades and wanted me to write another, for for her I'll give it another shot. To make a short story long I'll have to take you back about 40 years when the seeds were planted that finally germinated into the cause of my recrent expedition. At that time I was in the L.D.S. Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound and my room mate was an old prospector from down around Price who had suffered a broken back from a cavein while working in a coal mine. It seems he had spent a lot of timju'prospecting in theTienry Mlfjjltains. He filled my head vith stories about the rich gold he had found in the Henries. The gold fever hit me bad, and if I had been able to get out the hospital would probably have headed for the Henries at that time. (If I had been around when the Yukon Strike was on, I would have been right there with the rest of the "Greenhorns".; Anyway, these stories stuck in my craw and then when a big article came out in the Tribune about a 3 years ago telling all about the Wolverton lost gold mine in the Henry Mountains, will I knew that I just had to go and try my luck at finding it. Then a curious set of circumstances came about that fitted right in with my plans. My daughter Lana married Mike Keller whose sister married Greg Hunt from Hanksville, whose family just happened to own the property where the remains of the Wolverton gold mill still stands. Greg was best man at Lana's wedding and since he is a geologist and miner and fount out I was a prospector we were like two peas in a pod. I expressed an interest in the Henries and right then we made plans to go there in August to search for lost gold mine and buried treasure. The plans finally matured to where I was to meet Lana, Mike and baby Emily at Fish Lahe where Mike's dad has a cabin and boat, and try our hand at a little fishing before heading for Hanksville where we were to meet Greg. As the appointed time rolled around, I loaded the olds and headed for Fish Lake. I decided to stop at Richfield and gas up as I don't relish walking in a strafe country. I had forgotten what a red hot day it was and when 1 opened. The gas tank I hit a real gusher. The gas was boiling anil shot all over the place like Old Faithful. After it had quieted down I stuck the nozzle in and poured some more gas in. It automatically shut off but when it did, I hit another gusher. By ihe time it had quit erupting I figure I had made quite a dent in in energy crisis. at I finally pulled into the Fish Lake just after chunh had to out. It is surprising the numhrr of people that attend church tfu re. Mike and Lana were waitii'U we wheeled up to the cabin I nearly killed myself lust trying to teach Dale's mooxvute to fly. I few off through ttw timber and made a oiw 'UtC landing about a hundred Kvt below. Evil Kneivcl has nothing on me. con't next week rr Patronize the Advents who make this papsr poit each week! I |
