BLACK POWDER DAYS (Continued from first page) M. L. Shepherd had sheep (now called Big John's Flat because John C. Murdock had a horse ranch there In the middle 8o's. John M. Murdock was called "Little John," but he was not a little man by any means, but smaller than "Big John." They were con-Bins and rode the range together.) and then on the head of Bullion Canyon to view the east side of Mount Baldy and Mount Belnap and look down on Blue Lake also called Lake Jones) with the beautiful coloring above on the east side of Mount Baldy. Incessant rain caused the outing party to change their minds, so they started home, and when they reached the top of the mountain looking down toward Beaver, the Btorm cleared away. To look down on Beaver Valley was a beautiful Bight. A cloud hung over the whole valley and above it, about level with the riders, the sun was shining and the sky was clear blue. The party of pleasure seekers was glad to get home out of the rain. Although the water ran down the side of Grizzly Ridge and thru tho girls' tent, Inez said she greatly enjoyed the trip if she did lie In a puddle of water part of a night. They all declared thev would return to "Promise Camp" In Merchant. Valley some day when the weather was settled, but alas, like the old song: "They dispersed and wandered far away, far away."
