Grtm-sha- REVERSE Five years ago we, were engaged battle in a tremenduous political and when the smoke cleared away and the casualties were counted the democratic party was the worst organization in existance the rephlicans were joyous, they thought they had another eight yrs. of pie with seasonings. This year we are in the midst of another battle, this time I reffer to the wet and dry fight, the drys are in about the same demoralized condition the democrats were five years aso and the wets are like the rephlicans were at that time, they just could not make a mistake; but look at the come back the democrats made last fall, they just beat the republicans worse than they were beaten in 1928. Now the weta are having their own way and for the next few years they will be worse than the republicans were, just drunk with their own power. In about five years more or less, they, the wets, will be due for a reverse which will resemble the republican defeat last year. The claims and promises they are less making now as to revenues, crime, more respect for the law and better home life, are on par with the republican promises of lower taxes, more economy in government and more prosperity, made In 19 28 and their power to fullfill their promises is just about ag good. Experiments have revealed that 100 pounds of sand can only hold 25 lbs. of water; and 100 lbs. of clay soil can hold only half its weight in water. In contrast, 100 lbs of decayhold matter may ing organic as much as 190 pounds of water. Most soils are mixtures in varying proportions of sand, clay, silt, and organic materials. The greater proportion olr organic matter contained in the soil, the greater Its absorptive capacity, and the greater reserves of moisture it will retain for resistance to drouthy and hot weather. Barnyard manures are our best source of humus, and they also contain great fertilizer value. Some of our farmers hesittate to put manure out on the land in the fall because of leaching processes of the winter storms, but little water runs off cultivated land in winter, and the plant food elements become better incorporated in the soil for use of the plants of the next season's crop. It is a good plan to put barnyard manure on the land as fast ag it Is accumulated, thereby getting benefits of its fertilizing capacity. 2 Pt'liiniu'lit fi waves - Adults 80 r children S2." Woodhouse PLUMBING A i T ADD WATKR TO SILACiE IX TRENCH Harvest of corn for silage will be in full swing in our county within the next few days. Upright and trench silos are being made ready, machines are being assembled, and cooperating groups are laying their plans for the rush of the project. In the haste of the harvest some of the necessary details are sometimes neglected. In the trench silo, especially, water is needed to get the proper cure. The dirt will draw moisture from the corn and cause decomposition instead of givving the proper cure. Thorough tramping is also very necessary in the trench, while it is said to be unnecessary in the upright type of Silo. Oftentimes a little attention to details such as these saves many tons of feed, and the entire amount is of better quality. Just Beaver .Milford 0. Fillmore K.
