One of Salt Lake's stage favorites Is coming back to the Utah capital soon this time, however, he will be silent. The favorite is Rauph Cloninger, who has endeared himself to Utahns many times by his stage portrayals, and who recently has devoted some time to his other "love," motion pictures. He with some other Utah players and with Utah capital largely, has produced a feature film, which was previewed one night this week in Hollywood and drew much applause. It is titled "The Urge Within," and quite aside from its dramatic value and story interest, will carry much appeal for Utahns as well as people the country over for Its beautiful photographic settings settings by the way ' strictly Utahn. Playing opposite Cloninger in this is Mildred Harris, who gives an performance and is a worthy foil for Ralph. The supporting cast includes Oliver Eckhardt, a sterling character actor; Evelyn Selbie, Virginia Lee, Martin Cichey, Orville Harris, Billy Firmage and Fay Jen- nt sen. Henry Otto directed and Tom Beckway did the photography. The producipg unit is known as the Utah Productions. Story About Family of Village Doctor Briefly, the story is this: A village doctor addicted to drink, lurches home to find his wife dying, his two little children heartbroken, and none in attendance but two neighbors. The neighbors, played by Cichey and Evelyn Selbie, are divided in their sentiment toward the doctor (Oliver Eckhardt.) Cichey Is for driving the doctor and his motherless children out of town. He corrals the vigilantes, and, as the doctor's landlord dispossesses him and his family, the vigilantes do their stuff, burning the doctor's wretched belongings as he leaves. As they are leaving a small boy (later Ralph Cloninger) goes to the unhappy trio and offers food to the of two children. He is the step-so- n the man who brought about the "deportation" of the trio, but his mother commends the lad for his unselfish;" ness. Years later the doctor Is seen a prosperous physician, his son and daughter grown and all three living a life that comes with success. The daughter (Miss Harris) goes out hunting. A traveling show passing through the forest halts. Two desperadoes attempt to steal Miss Harris' car as she starts for home after ending her hunting. Her screams bring Ralph Cloninger, now leading man with the show, which his mother own. and step-father Blackmail Enters Into Plot. In her excitement she forgets to thank him and Is waiting when the show caravan reaches town to give Cloninger belated thanks. Ha tells his mother of the girl, mentioning her name. The mother wonders if the doctor's daughter can be the same who was dispossessed in their home town years before. " Ralph's stepfather overhears and plans to turn the information to his advantage by blackmailing the doctor. While Ralph and his mother are at the show, Ralph's stepfather, abetted by his trusty, sends for the doctor, naming the amount of cash that will. seal his lips. The doctor comes, argues, and next we see Ralph, his mother and the doctor's daughter en ter to discover Ralph's stepfather dead on the floor. As Ralph picks up the gun, the stepfather's trusty looks In the window, therf spreads the alarm that Ralph ls a murderer, Against his better judgment, Ralph flees as his mother and the girl reLater he comes to fare the quest. charge, when the town hlrk detective appears and clears up the matter by, telling how he saw the doctor enter, give Cichey the money, and then . turn out sufficiently to miss the truck in passing, the driver probably being unable to judge the distance on account of the lights.
