Crews will continue work that began last fail utilising a variety of methods to physically dose the routes to motorized traffic. The Fishlake National Forest maintains over 2,700 ' miles of motorized routes, offering some of the finest off-highway vehicle riding in Utah. These routes include portions of the Paiute ATV Trail System, and the Great Western Trail. Routes open to motorized travel based on public input, have been signed and included on the Forest's Travel Maps and Motor Vehicle Use Map for the past four years. While some of the routes slated for decommissioning or closure have been used for many years, several are in areas that pose concerns for water quality due to siltation from water run-off or son being thrown into streams by vehicles. in some areas, multiple routes lead to the same destination increasing the road densities, and impacting vegetation and wildlife. Many of these are user created routes; not part of the Forest's system of roads. Concerns ever the spread of non-native, invasive plant species are a!so prompting some of the closures. Areas with sensitive native populations are susceptible to the introduction of non-native plants that may overtake the native plants, having a ripple effect on wildlife and increasing the potential for high intensity wildland fire, as is the case with cheatgrass in many areas of centra! Utah. To provide safe and .well maintained roads and trails, the Forest ha.s prioritised read maintenance; focusing en roads and routes that are essential and important to the agency and the pubiic. By closing and decommissioning routes that are either excess to administrative needs, or pose an immediate or future threat of erosion, stream degradation or slope stability, the Forest can better use the funds allocated for road and trail maintenance. The Forest continues to assess off-highway travel in order to balance the multiple uses of national forest system lands, Including motorized and non-motorized travel, dispersed camping opportunities, and . resource protection. Forest visitors can do their part to protect valuable resources by riding on approved routes at all times. Travel Maps are available for free at all Fishlake National Forest offices in Beaver, Filimore, Richfield and Loa. Byron's Pork BBQ, found in the freezer section at Sam's Club, is the perfect way to enjoy BBQ without having to spend all day standing over a hot grill smoking ycur own! It is hickory smoked and comes fully cooked, so it can be easily wanned in an oven or a slow cooker, making a BBQ party fc breeze. Or, you can warm it up on top of a grill if the weather permits. It even comes packaged in a grill-friendly aluminum tray and the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce keeps the meat_ moist and flavorful. "It saves me time and money—leaving more time for family fun," says Ashcraft. For the menu, nothing's simpler than letting guests build their own sandwiches. Place the BBQ in a large serving dish, put out the fixings and let everyone else do the rest. Guests can choose from a variety of toppings such as coleslaw, red onions and tomatoes. They can enjoy the BBQ served on top of a bun or plain if they prefer. For the sides, serve up such standards as potato salad, pickles and baked beans. "Don't forget the dessert," says Ashcraft. "Brownies pair perfectly with BBQ for a sweet end to a flavorful meal." Ib bring the party indoors and out of .the heat, Ashcraft recommends serving an exotic twist on California BBQ Pizza j:j. : 3;.
