Well, pull up a chair and read the story of a high school of youth, sophomores through seniors that went outside themselves to give to one girl a prize of a lifetime and in turn, receive the joy of their own lives. Last week, the studentbody of Dixie High School voted for and crowned Cassi Warby queen of the senior ball. Unique? Exciting? senior at Dixie High Newsworthy? Well, Cassi is a School. Cassi was born with Down syndrome and has spent her lifetime loving and friendshipping all who could see beyond a syn drome and see into the soul of one special girl. Cassi has another special problem. At the age of 8 she started to stutter. It seems that her mind works faster than her conversation responds. She is high functioning for her syndrome and able to care for herself but that added negative, in her life does not always give the appearance other abilities. She loves and befriends everyone she sees. She is well liked and respected and is "Miss Sociable" about the school. There was an assembly at the high school wherein 12 candidates, 6 girls and 6 boys, had been nominated for queen and king respectively.' They got together for breakfast, planned and then practiced for 3 afternoons to get dances, costumes and skits ready to perform at an assembly. Each twosome got together a dance routine to perform on stage. Two groups did a routine skit and then each of the king contestants ushered 6 queen contestants down the iong isles and across the front to walk across the stage in full formal wear. Every time Cassi came on stage or while being ushered down the isle, the audience erupted into cheers and clapping and standing ovations. The auditorium was vibrating. This little Cassi learned a dance, sported, a crazy outfit and came out on stage to perform. She danced with her usher and she never missed a beat. She was involved in a skit of ninjas with poles. While the candidates were all back stage getting into their formal wear, students in the audience were given scantrons and asked to cast their ballots. Anyway, Cassi had the queenly wave down pat when she came out onto the stage at each event. Standing ovations were heard every time she appeared in front of the audience. Last year's queen and king came on stage with the crowns and walked back and forth to tease the candidates. Last year's queen did her tease and then planted the crown right ori Cassi's head. Can you believe it of the youth of today? They actually sacrificed the position to vote Cassi in. So many say that the youth of today are so into themselves and so self centered and maybe in some things it seems that way but last week, a whole studentbody did something entirely centered on giving someone else a dream of a lifetime. They gave the title to Cassi Warby. At the senior ball Saturday night, Cassi never rested one dance. All the young men danced every dance with Cassi and many times lined up to cut in on the one in front of them. The girls clamored around her to share in her special night. Other youth will have successes in their day. They will work and prove themselves worthy of a position or job or a great life but for Cassi, her one day to reign was granted by her peers. She had not asked for the position. She was just simply voted so that she could have a dream of every girl's lifetime. In most high schools around the state and country, a queen of this year will be forgotten in just a short time by all the classmates but because of the selfless act of this studentbody, no one will ever forget the day that they voted Cassi as queen of the senior ball. Cassi is the daughter of Wayne and Sandi Warby of St. George, the granddaughter of Bill and Georgean Warby of Beaver, and Carol Murdock of Kanarraville.
