Letter to the Editor, Beaver's Native Son wins top honors at "The President's Dinner" On Saturday, November 11th, Joe Williams took honors and received a special award at the Utah Chefs Association President Dinner. Competition was stiff as Joe competed against 11 other chefs. For this chefs competition, judging was extremely tough; as it was done by some of the leaders in the field and by some of the coaches for The American Cooking Olympic Team." The judges saw fit to award only 2 chefs out of the 11 chefs competing, and Beaver's own, Joe Williams received one of them. Later that evening, a dinner was hosted by the President of the Beehive Chefs Association, where Joe was the only one awarded, "The Presidents Award." This award is in appreciation for his support and promotion of the ACF Beehive State Chefs Chapter. Joe and his wife were invited to a special after dinner party in the presidential suite of the Hilton Hotel, where he was congratulated and able to rub elbows with some of the outstanding leaders in the Cooking Industry. This is not Joe's first cooking competition. In June he won the gold medal, and in my opinion, blew away the competition at the Utah food show hosted by Nicholas Food. Joe spends hours .and hours preparing for these com- petitions, and it shows by the recognition of his peers and the Utah Chefs Association. have had the opportunity to watch Joe compete at one of these cooking competitions. He amazed me with his ability to be calm, clear headed, and extremely skillful with everything he did. His Wife and mother on the other hand were a bundle of nerves as they sat and quietly cheered him on, while sizing up the competition and watching the clock. Those of us, who know Joe Williams, know that he is very humble of his talents as a chef; so humble that he will not allow his family to recognize his awards in public. But I'm not am just a friend who family; thinks what he has accomplished is a pretty great thing. have always looked up and respected people who work their hardest at being the best at what they do; and if you are like Joe, doing something that you absolutely love is a blessing. In Joe's opinion he is just a cook, but see him as being someone who strives to be the best at what he loves to do and his accomplishments have brought great honor and talent to our small town of Beaver. I I I I Thank You To the Beaver County tax payers for your support in reelecting me as your Beaver County Treasurer. It has been an honor and a privilege working for you. I'm looking forward to serving our county for another term. Sincerely, LeeAnn M. Carter the news that fits, All WE PRINT Sincerely, Rishel Stewart Your News Could Be Here i |
