By Be'tty Marshall The highlight this week in Minersville was the 4th of July celebration. It started with a parade at 10;00 o'clock. The parade was led by Larry who was Marshall of the day. The Goddess of Liberty was Marsha Hollingshead, her attendants were Linda Williams, Lorraine Gressman, Connie s and Janet Ashley. There were many beautiful floats, and some funny ones. The winners were Dan Davis' for the pret-ties- t; Karl Truman's for the most patriotic, and the Double 4 Cooking Cuties as the most original. Following the parade a program was held honoring our two Gold Star Mothers, Lois Hollingshead and Ilene Jameson. The flag bearers were Gil Limb and Greg Marshall. The opening prayer was given by Obra Myers. The congregation sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and gave the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Bill Fails talked on Americanism, Harrold Baker sang; Jan Truman gave a (reading; Joy MJthews 'sang Kula B. Karkey gave a talk, played his flute and sang in his native language. The quartet, Lee Marshal, Harold Baker Mart Davis and Milton Albrecht sang. A skit was given by Adele s, Kathy Thompson, Marion Gillins and Joan Pryor. The congregation sang "America" and the closing prayer was given by . Robert Puffer. Lunch was sold at the school house by the American Legion Auxiliary after which everyone gathered for the sports. There were foot races for the children from one to Paper plate throwing, boxing and nail driving contests were also sponsored. At three o'clock the horse races started. Quartet, Carol Carter, Elizabeth Ritchie, Gilbert Gale, and Hal Lund, "We'll Sing For America", accompanied by Clara Carter. Marvin Spendlove was master of Ceremonies and the color bearers were Mark Woolsey and Ralph Bonn. The audience sang, "The Star Spangled Banner" led by Carol Smith, accompanied by Janet Smith, The play was narrated by Vilda and Grand Esplin and Karl Roberts. Penny brought her grandmother, Mrs. Anna Patterson with her. Mr. and Mrs. Max Dalton and family of Noxwalk, Calif., have been spending their vacation at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Marshall where they have enjoyed fishing and have also been helping in the hay. They are returning home by way of Zion and Grand Canyon and Phoenix, Arizona. Mr and Mrs. Tom Studs and family of Orem and Mr, and Mrs. Gene Pitchforth and sons of Murray spent a few days at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Goldie Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Jess McKnight and family were holiday guests at the home of Mrs Cassie McKnight. Mr. Miss Connie Gillins has returned home after spending two weeks with her aunt Mrs. Joy Benson in Ogden, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Truman Brad-fiel- d went to Caldwell, Idaho, to get his mother, Mrs Edith Bradfield, where she has been spending the month with her sister, Mrs. Sue Roberts.
