Show n rrzT-r-m - ersona "Maid Mention It TT 1 r iiappenea T, In Washington By Mrs. Wallace F. Bennett A new Adiminstration in Washington brings many changes besides those within the government. One of them is the change in social organizations. This year, for example, the Ladies of the Senate have a new president-LadBird Johnson, replacing Pat Nixon, who served as president of the group for the past eight years. The wife of the Vice President is automatically president of this group. The Senate wives meet each Tuesday, and following a custom started during World War 1 they spend the day rolling bandages and sewing for Red Cross. In addition to being a worthy service project, this affords a fine opportunity for getting to know one another. There is something about the informality of sitting side by side around an oilcloth-eoveretable, chatting as you work, that means good fellowship. During Pat Nixon's eight years of leadership, she endeared herself to everyone, regardless of party. Shy at first, she grew with each added responsibility, and has been an outstanding y d leader. Lady Bird Johnson is She is no stranger to over. taking the group. As a Senate wife, she has attended regularly herself for many years. The ladies sometimes bring surprise treats from home lunches we to make the paper-babring a bit more festive, and for her Lady Bird is famous brownies. Her quiet, pleasant manner and her natural Southern charm make her, too, a general Now, favorite.
