Show BIG AUDIENCE WELL PLEASED WITH SINGERS Second Lyceum Number is a Splendid Success Mt. Vernon Singing Company Afford Music Lovers a Rare Treat The second number of the Lyceum course was a worthy successor to the initial one. The large auditorium was well filled with an appreciative audience and the various numbers received unstinted though well-merited commendation. The Mt. Vernon Singing Party was the attraction and well did they uphold th advance press euconiums relating to their work in other places. Besides being par excellence as a mixed quartette, each member of the company, individually, is a finished fin-ished soloist, Including the accompanist. accompan-ist. The blend of their voices is wonderful and their "team work" if one may use that expression when treating of music, is all that could be desired. Last night's program, included the following well known compositions: Passage of the Bird's Farewell, Heidich; Mighty Lak' a Rose, Nev-In; Nev-In; The Swallows, Dell Acqua; Duet from Farva Del Destino, Verdi; Star Song, Rogers; Songs of the Soul Breil; Rolling Down to Rio German Four Plantation Songs (Belinda, Steal Away, When de Moon am Rolled Roll-ed Away, Carry Me Back to Ole Vir-glnle); Vir-glnle); Princess Pat, Victor Herbert; Italian Street Song, Victor Herbert; Goodnight Quartette (from Martha). Bealde these programmed cumbers cum-bers there were numerous encores, which really almost doubled the volume vol-ume of the original program. In the final numbers, the quartette appeared appear-ed in Italian costume, making a most pleasing picture. Probably the most wonderful singing sing-ing that has been heard in Milford for many years was that enjoyed at last night's concert. Many of the selections se-lections were sung in Italian in which language the members of the company com-pany appear to be perfectly at home. Their rendition of plantation melodies melo-dies brought tears to the eyes of many who have heard the old southern south-ern songs sung by the darkies themselves them-selves "way down south in Dixie." It was with a sigh of genuine disappointment dis-appointment that the large audience arose to depart after the closing number, so enthralled were the auditors audi-tors as they listened to the richly-blended richly-blended voices of the singers. The Mt. Vernon company will also sing at Minersvtlle,. Beaver and the "Dixie" "Dix-ie" country. |
