Sami Goad Suuestiaaa The Colorado Btate Medical Association, in an article prepared bv its members on Sanitation in the Home, presents the following as a guide: Practically all acuta diseases arc contagious or iufeclious; some mildly, and others intensely so. Projx-- r sanitation is first in importance to prevent contracting disease, modify its severity and complications, and protect from the infection of others in the home or the community. Bv sanitation is meant establishing and maintaining surrounding conditions that make health easy and diseases difficult. It has es)ieciaily to do with drainage, fresh air, pure water and sunlight. Many of the rules that apply to outbuildings, corrals, swamps. streets and alleys, need bot little changing to Le applicable in the home. method to clean The best every-daa home is with water and soap. method to The best every-daigate a house Is with pure air. Keep oot flies; they are Uie greatest germ carriers in the w'orld, with the possin ble exception of the plush in a car. Sunshine in every possible corner combines to make the house a fib place in which to live. Carpets, draeries and unnecessary furniture make incomplete tlfe application of water and aoap, fresh air and sunshine. Eliminate the carpet wherever consistent, and always in d the sick room, Beware of sofas, mattresses and bedding. Rugs should be washable, as well as draperies. Dark closets and clothes presses are favorable lodging places for disease germs from former sickness in the house. To guard against protecting such infection in the house, extra care is necessary to clean, ventilate, and, when necessary, to fumigate these places. See that there is a place to dispose of dishwater, slop aud other refuse, where it will be disinfected, buried or disposed of in a manner not contaminating your owu or your neighbors premises. An individual cesspool in the house or a foul, slimy slop pail is a fine boarding house for disease germs, together with the flics that dodge in in spite of the screens. As will be noted, the two great essentials are sunshine and fresh air; then cuines the exclusion of flics. A home where the fresh air does not circulate freely and where there is not an airing of the rooms at least once a day, is a place where there will be sickness, if the occupants are not nnsually rugged in constitution and equipped to throw off the attacks of the germs of disease. Flies are the conveyors of disease and though a home have fresh air and sunshine, but afford easy ingress to flies, there will lie great danger from typhoid and other filth diseases. Only within the last few years have the people generally been made to realise the disease spreading power of the commou house fly. Though warned, the public has been slow to guard the invasion of homes by flies in the summer time. Eventually all careful housekeepers will be as scrupulous in excluding flies as in keeping their lace curtains stainless from dust and dirt. -- TRADE MORAL The quality ol what you have to sell is known to some people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but advertise regularly with us and youll reach all of the people all of the time. or .
