Red Wilson pleaded with theCoun-c- il not to tear down the facility He said, the grandstand has served the community off and on since it was built by the WPA in the 1930's. During that time it has remained idle several times. But as new generations come along with horse racing fever, the facility is put back in shape. If you tear it down, you'll never lie able to afford to replace it, and with racing fever high in the County now, some group or organization may start racing in Milford I beagain in the near future. lieve there should be a morito-riuof ten years placed on the demonlition. Wiseman said he'd Mayor pro-tealso been approached, to wait a couple of years, before making a decision to tear the facility down. But those were the only two to speak in defense of the grandstand and track. The majority of those present considered the facility to be a liability, a fire risk, and could see no possibility of It being used again. After considerable discussion, with Recorder Rose leading the opposition to the track, the Council decided to delay a decision until at least next spring, to give time for proponents to decide If they want to use the track and facili- nections, for a swimming pool and recreation complex, to be used exclusively for that purpose. If the complex financing should fail the money collected will be turned back as credit on the water connection. However they made a minute entry, which allows residents to get a refund if requested. Recorder Rose opposed the refund on the basis that writing chekcs for the refund would be expensive to the city. They opened bids for water meter installation. Five bids were reChad Hardy, $40.00 per corded meter; Terry D. Boone, $40.00 per meter; Dale Rogers, $24.50; Ted Bridge, $25.00; and Richard Brad-sha$22.50. They went into executive session to discuss the bids and city personnel, at 9:20 p.m. They returned at 10:15 p.m. and moved to contract Ted Bridge to install meters, even though there were two lower bids. It was felt that Ted Bridge had done a good job previously, and that he would work full time on the installation, which Is necessary to get them Installed as soon as possible. Whitney made the motion, and the vote was un- - ties. The propoerty will be posted with no trespassing signs, and efforts made to keeD kids from playing in the area, where they might get hurt. Speaking in favor of the demolition were Rose, Dr. Symond, John Maxey and several others. With the exception of Rose who want to tear it down to make way for new ballparks, the others speaking just wanted to get rid of the risk and fire hazard, before someone gets hurt. f COUNT V Pufcl.Owd t M.llord Utah 84751 ri fi n - II II II J I rzz h i '.n.ri ("! 1" (nil. They opened bids on tires from Milford Chevron and John's Service. Milford Chevron had the low bid, but Mayor Pro --Tern Wiseman was advised that he should make a statement of a possible conflict of interest, before voting, because his dad owns the Milford Chevron. Wisemans affirmative vote was necessary because Schow and Davis were absent, and with out his vote there would not be a quorum. After discussion it was decided to offer the appointment of deputy treasurer to Daly. Compensation for the position will be determined. In other business Carol Elliott told the Council that $3, 500 donation from the Union Pacific for the summer recreation program was pending, that she and her husband were working on the proposal to supply water from the railroad wells to the golf course, and that they hope to have confirmation on the $100,-00- 0 for the recreation facility by August 15th. O.D. Powell requested he be considered for the unexpired term of mayor, and said he plans to run for the office. He also said he could repair the present pool or build a new one for less money than the present proposal. He will supply plans and costs by Sept. 1st for the city. They discussed the possibility of having Karen LaOrange impound animals picked up by the city, lodged a complaint with Deputy Johnson, requesting Metro crack down on illegal riding of three wheelers before someone gets hurt. Judge Cook told them they could not transfer business, beer or dog licenses, because they were not transferable. Rose asked permission to notify with weeds or trash to clean up their property or the city will, at the property owners expense. She was authorized to write letters giving them 10 days to clean up, or a citation will be written. They passed unanimously, to withdraw from the city's 1st Interstate retirement program, and get the employees back into the State Retirement Program. They denied a request to allow the hospital to water during restricted hours, and suggested the maintenance crew work a split shift for watering as the city does. "For the higher -- risk categories, we strongly 387-557- recommend annual routine influenza immunization against Influenza, including the strains similar to what are known as the A --Chile, A -- Philippines Flus. This new and vaccine is for these three strains," stated Coffm an. Those who the Health Department is urging become Immunized include: those with heart disease, or circulatory problems; chronic pulmonary conditions such as with or heavy smoking; tuberculosis those with chronic renal disease, diabetes, chronic or severe anemia and other conditions which compromise the immune mechanism. Immunization is also recommended for older persons, particularly those over 65, and especially residents of nursing homes and other chronic care facilities. Coffman also noted that Immunization is recommended for physicians, nurses and other, personnel who have expattensive cSntact with high-ris- k ients, because of the potential for these people to expose the high-ris- k person to influenza. Mr. Coffman also stressed that although immunization against influenza is not recommended for the general population of healthy infants, children or adults, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has stated that the vaccine should be administered to people "who wish to reduce their chances of acquiring influenza infection." When asked about adverse reactions to this new vaccine, Coffman explained that such side effects of Influenza vaccine are generally inconsequential in adults and occur at a low frequency. At younger ages side effects are more common, but usually limited to minor irritation or tenderness at the site of injection. He also stated that, as with most immunizations today, the risk to thoe in the "high-risk- " categories is "liluch greater from getting influenza than for experiencing significant side effects. other-specia- Fair" pie. winning 387-55- 50. 4:00 to So all you great outdoor chefs get your goodies ready and come to the Fair. Indeed, despite the fee generated by the City of Milford, and the commitment by the Union Pacific Railroad, we still are approximately $80,000.00 short of the total amount of funds necessary to build our center. For this reason, we are writing to ask for your help ji paying for this new facility. What we would like to request is that members of the South and West an amount Communities donate similar to what the residents of Milford City are paying. This would be $240.00 over a two year period. You could make this slightly less painful by listing it as a donation to either the City Government, or a donation to the Milford Area United Way, which is to be used for the swimming pool construction. In the event that one of the matching grants does not go through, and that the facility is not constructed, then the money would be returned to you in full. The advantage of this would be that it would be tax deductible! In return, all those who donate will be accorded rights in the new facility exactly the same as dwellers of the City of Milford who have paid the necessary fees. In all honesty, it may necessary to have a surcharge on admission to people who have not contributed to the construction costs of the pool. We certainly appreciate any help that you can give us in obtaining this facility which is so badly needed in the Milford area. If you have questions about the specific costs, what the money is being used for, or anything else, please don't hesitate to let us know.
