Show Jim Whelan told us the other oth-er day that 80 percent of the geologists eating breakfast in the Hong Kong were females. fe-males. It just goes to prove that you give an inch and they'll take a mile. Dr. Whelan of course is with the Uni. of Utah, doing geothermal exploration ex-ploration in the area. One of the ladies was his assistant assis-tant and the other three were with private industry. Just a few short years ago, lady geologists were non-exis-tant. -0- Finally, local golfers are going to get an opportunity to play the New Milford Golf Course. President JackDa-vis JackDa-vis indicated he will open the five completed holes to play Saturday morning. -0- Deer prospects in the Beaver Beav-er Mountains don't look too good if reports from a group of young businessmen is any indication. Seem about 10 of them make an annual summer horseback ride from BigFlat to Puffer Lake. The route they take is about 10 miles. In years past they have spooked as high as 200 big bucks off the ridge this year they saw only one forked fork-ed horn. -0- The Spectrum and Salt Lake Tribune have evidently taken up the cause of the bureaucrat bu-reaucrat in the fight to force FCAG controls on Southern Utah. They claim in articles that Iron County's withdrawal was unwarranted and came without notice, or public hearing. They indicate the withdrawal was masterminded master-minded by John' Birchers. -0- The facts are that withdrawal with-drawal was a topic of discussion dis-cussion at every meeting of the Iron County Commission since February. Withdrawal was not accomplished until -the last meeting in June. ' Minutes' ' of " Commission meetings and reports of these meetings in the Iron County Record and the Spectrum Spec-trum as well as the NEWS will substantiate this. -0- The articles paint Commissioners Com-missioners Wood and Mac-Donald Mac-Donald as conspiring to withdraw with-draw long before their election elec-tion last fall. They're reprimanded rep-rimanded for not making withdrawal an election issue. is-sue. The facts are that until they were elected and actually ac-tually got a look at the inner-workings inner-workings of the FCAG they had few facts to back up their suspicions of the huge waste of taxpayer's money. After election made them privy to FCAG records, budgets, and expenditures, they were decisive de-cisive in their analysis. For this they're condemned? -0- The articles would paint a picture that the only ones who want out of the FCAG are the John Birchers. Chairman of Beaver, Kane and Garfield Commissions Commis-sions are quoted as saying they've never been asked to pull out. THE FACTS: The Beaver County Commission Com-mission has been asked to pull out at numerous meetings meet-ings by groups and individuals. indivi-duals. Their recent withdrawal with-drawal from the FCAG Health and Social Services, was prompted by requests to withdraw totally from the FCAG. Beaver County has been asked to withdraw at least once at each regular meeting meet-ing for several months, sometimes by more than one delegation at different hours of the day. This newspaper has called for withdrawal of Beaver County from the FCAG since February 1973 when we wrote our "Frogs andFree-dom" andFree-dom" editorial. At that time we urged withdrawal, or defeat de-feat of an article of incorporation incor-poration which gave the FCAG the right to sue and be sued and to make contracts. con-tracts. This article in fact makes the FCAG the parent corporation and the counties and cities therefore subservient. subser-vient. Since adoption of that article, ar-ticle, this newspaper has advocated ad-vocated complete withdraw-(Continued withdraw-(Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT JUST BETWEEN al, or repeal of that article, on a consistant basis. It's doubtful that there has been a meeting between this writer writ-er and Commission Chairman Chair-man Harris, since that time that withdrawal from the FCAG has not been discussed. discus-sed. Were it not for his fanatical fa-natical fear that Neil Christ -ensen can cut off all state and federal funds from Beaver County, we're sure Beaver County would long ago have been shed of this bad experience. For him to tell Mr. Halliday of the Tribune that the Commission has never been asked to withdraw borders on heresy. We have evidence that the Commissions of Kane, Garfield Gar-field and Washington Coun-ies Coun-ies have received much pressure from their constituents constit-uents to withdraw from the FCAG. Our own mail indicates indi-cates that the large majority of residents of the five counties coun-ties oppose the FCAG in it's present form. This newspaper, the Iron County Commission, the Beaver County Medical Society, Soc-iety, nor anyone else we know, has ever advocated a total disbandment of multi-county multi-county organizations. We do, however, advocate a return to the oldFive County Coun-ty Organization, which was the forerunner of all the multi-county organizations in Utah. This organization was under the complete control of the respective re-spective county commissions commis-sions and was voluntary and is this concept which was expanded, and still exists throughout the rest of Utah. We suggest that Mr. Halliday, Hal-liday, Ms. Juvelin, the Salt Lake Tribune, and the Spectrum, Spec-trum, all take a look at the F.C.A.G., the difference between be-tween this AOG and the other AOG's in Utah, and the cost of administering the FCAG vs. the services received, before they start calling the responsible and concerned citizens of Southern Utah a bunch of John Birchers. If they bother to dig deep enough they'll find that to a man, those opposing the withdrawal of Iron County from the FCAG are the members mem-bers of the liberal college community, are nowon, have been, or expect to be on the F.C.A.G. pay roll, in many instances they fit both categories. |
