Show TURN YARDS INTO GARDENS Dwellers in the cities are urged by the U. S. Department Depart-ment of Agriculture to turn their yards into gardens. If this were done the danger of a food shortage in war time would be greatly lessened. The ordinary kitchen wastes make good fertilizer, if free from grease and acid. Bones, scraps of meat, spoiled beans, peas or meal and discarded crusts, are especially good. Wood ashes are very valuable. Coal ashes, if applied a little at a time arid well raked into the soil, will produce good garden crops. Exchange. |
