EVAN Ml Dear Steve: The first paragraph of your editorial "Keep Politics Out of is untrue, Health Matters" very biased and colored to cover up the real truth of the whole situation. I have never heard of anyone using pressure on the Beaver County Commission to remove Dr. Symond from the office of County Health Officer in favor of Dr. Davie. Where do you get such information? ? If the pubUc Is led to believe such things, they should ask themselves, just why was Dr. Davie removed from office in the first place? He is an M.D. His ability and qualifications are unquestionable. Yet the County Commissioners saw fit to remove him from his duties and appoint Dr. Bishop of Beaver as Co. Health "Administrator," (another name for Health Officer). Dr. Davie was not notified of his release for several months. Why? Doesn't any individual holding an office have the right (or at least be given the opportu-lty- ) to defend himself at a hearing and given reasons for his dismissal? I have no FOR NIELSEN Box 18 Beaver. Utah Phone: 438-234- quarrel with our present Health Officer, however I do question our Commission as to the actions they have taken in the past concerning this "Health Matter." I would also like the public to ask themselves these questions: L Why was an M.D. not appointed instead of a dentist? The law states "A county Health Officer shall be an M. We have D. (if available)." three MD.s In Beaver Co. All qualified. 2. How long did Dr. Bishop hold office? 3. Was the Co. M.D.s notified of the resignation of Dr. Bishop, so they could file an application (if they so desired)? 4. When was Dr. Symond appointed to said office? Commissioner Pryor stated that the office of County Health Officer is now open for reappointment, so this time the 3rd let's ask ourselves question again. Has the county M.D.s been notified of this and have they filed an application for this position with the County Commission? Sure, the Commission has the final say, but with all fairness to our Drs. and general public they should at least consider the people who put them in office. Don't you agree? Signed WANDA MUNK. (Editor's Note: Yes, Mrs. Munk, we do agree that the commissioners should consider the people who put the peothem in office ple of the entire county who voted for them; not just one group. We disagree that the first paragraph of our editorial Is "untrue . . . colored to cover up the real truth." And evidently we have different interpretations of the In our word "pressure." book the County Commission has definitely been under pressure - for months to replace Dr. Symond with Dr. Davie as County Health Officer, and according to one the County Commissioner "pressure" is coming from a small group of Milford Democrats.
