Although this is remarkable progress compared to what happens when learning other sports, you still should continue taking lessons a few more times until you feel comfortable with the idea of skiing on your own. When you take future lessons, you will start approximately where you left off at the end of your first lesson. Most ski areas use the American Teaching Method so you can go to other ski areas as you take lessons. . Most new skiers should continue with group class lessons. They cost much less than private instruction and are preferable to most people since you share your learning experiences with others of similar ability. But, hopefully, this reporter, and family members are on the road to. good health and I can once again concentrate on the job at hand. And even though I've been down, the sorority has been busy the last couple of months. Just to recap a few activities: there was the drawing for the nativity set at Christmas, which raised money donated to a worthy community cause, and as in year's past we once again donated filled Christmas stockings to the geriatric ward of the hospital. Then there was our Christmas party, which included caroling on the fire truck and exchanging of presents at the beautifully decorated home of Gay Schow. January business meeting was held at the jome of Lisa Carter, at which time we heard a presentation from Karen Nelson, repreCancer senting the American Society. She presented a video and -- aheld tydwtectlSn of 551- cer. After that we chose our 1988 "Woman of the Year." Mrs. Margaret Miller was chosen and as such she will be honored at various activities throughout the com -ing year. On January 25, a group of about 15 sorority members traveled to Salt Lake City to enjoy an night shopping trip. While there, they also enjoyed a popular performing group who was in town. On Thursday of that same week we held our Woman of the Year Tea and Social at the home of Debra Wunderlich. Most of our past "woman of the year" honorees were present and a lovely dinner was served. February's business meeting was held on Wednesday the 3rd at the home of Tammy Martin. At this meeting the Beta Upsilon Sweetheart of the Year was voted on. This year's Sweetheart" will be announced at the next meeting, which will be a Hot Tub Party at the home of Mary Wiseman on Friday, February 26th. Also on the upcoming agenda is the election of officers for the which will be held year 1988-8- 9, at our March business meeting. The chairman is Connie Thelph. The campaign raises money for arthritis research and public and patient education to help the 240,000 Utahns suffering with arthritis. Seventy-eight percent of all funds raised goes directly towards education and Door-to-Do- or research. Volunteers are essential to the Arthritis Foundation's fight against the more than 100 forms of arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Most forms of arthritis have no known cure; however, much can be done to control pain, keep joints moving freely and prevent further joint damage caused by the disease.
