Morin received two scholarships based on academic achievement to the University for the 1986-8- 7 school year and one for the 1985-8- 6 year. He is the son of Al and LaRee Morin, who live part of the year in Canyon Grove, and the nephew of Geneal Roberts of Beaver. Juniors pi on Fourth The Junior Old Timers are again organizing the activities for the Fourth of July in Milford. The theme they have chosen for this year is "Accent on Achievement." The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a 10 K and Fun Run beginning at the Milford Hospital. The parade will line up at 9:30 a.m . at the hospital and begin at 10:00 a.m. All organizations and businesses are encouraged to enter a float. Anyone planning to enter a float should contact Gloria McDermott. A free swim will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Lions Club will then sponsor a beef and pork barbeque at the race track pavilion from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The fireworks display sponsored by the Junior Old Timers will start at dark at the race track. The display this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. Following the fireworks, plan to dance to the music of Justice at the annual Fourth of July dance at the pavilion. Pufffor earns degree Puffer Connie recently graduated with high honors from Westminster College of Salt Lake City with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She, 31 other RNs from along with throughout the Southern Utah area, participated in a two-ye- ar pilot program through Westminster which enabled the Associate Degree students to earn their Bachelor's in Nursing. Graduating with a 3.79 GPA, she earned high honor status. Connie is married to Joe Puffer, mother of Kellie and Todd Puffer and Patti Dotson. She is the daughter of Leon and Audra Jones. Romine abstained because he was J not present at all the meeting re viewed. Attorney Kanell explained that the documents on the pool were closed. The State will not release it's grant monies until all the money in the County is In place. He explained that the City of Milford has until August 15 to have all matching funds in the account. Recorder Rose suggested to the Council that the copier needed replacing. The cost of repair has become such that it would be economical to replace the copier. Councilman Mayer made amotion to have Recorder Rose price copiers and purchase one for less than $2,500.00. Councilman Whitney seconded the motion. Foreman Baxter suggested that due to the heavy use the backhow will receive this summer, the Council should consider doing some minor Wiseman repairs. Councilman made a motion to allow Foreman Baxter to spend $1,000.00 on the backhoe In repairs. Councilman Davis seconded. AH were In favor. Councilman Wiseman made amotion to replace Foreman Baxter's personal camera that was used and worn out by the City. Councilman Whitney seconded the motion. Mayor Mayer is to see that the camera is replaced. All in favor. Councilman Whitney tabled the discussion on the applications. The Council asked the Recorder to send out letters asking the residents of Lately Street to clean up the area. Attorney Kanell asked that the Council consider budgeting the poke out of taxes and not out of water. The Council agreed. A motion was made by Councilman Mayer to hold a meeting on June 22, 1987, 8:30 p.m. to approve the final budget. Councilman Davis seconded the motion. All were In favor. Chief Davis reported the new officer, Randy Rose, is doing well at the academy. A motion was made to pay the bills. Councilman Whitney made the motion. Councilman Davis seconded. All were in favor. Councilman Whitney asked permission to allow the JOT's to hold a dance until 2 O'clock in the morning on the 4th of July. Councilman Wiseman made the motion. Councilman Mayer seconded the motion. Councilman Davis explained that after Officer Rose gets out of the Local performer to (re on national TU Beaver ....You may know Dwayne Davis, of Cedar City, as the guy who Installed your cable --T.V., or you may know him by his signature on his woodcrafts and painting; but If you want to know him at his favorite creative passtlme, then you can watch him sing on the "You Can Be A Star" TV Program (TNN ASHVILLE) on June 30th, 1987. This will be the first appearance for Mr. Davis on National Television, but since age nine, when he made his singing debut at Panguitch Elementary School, he has performed steadily before Southern Utah audiences. Dwayne 's parents, Lamond and Judy Davis, talented musicians themselves, taught all four of their children to sing and play various musical instruments. The family has often performed together. In 1982, Dwayne won first place In the Farm Bureau Talent Contest In Beaver County, playing the guitar and singing his own compositions. He won the same contest in Iron County in 1985. During the past four years, has been with the Beaver Courthouse Players and has appeared in lead roles in such popular stage productions as "The Fantas-tics- ", "Once Upon A Mattress", and "You Cant Take It With You." He created the role of Baskln in the original Beaver Civic Arts production of "Satan Came With Them" the acclaimed courtroom drama of the trials of John D. Lee. Dwayne and his wife, Tracy, are parents to three sons: Daniel- Dwayne six, and little Roger. On the "You Can Be A Star" show, Mr. Davis will appear with the famous Po' Folks Band. The show will air on Tuesday, June 30, 1987, at 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on TNN --Channel 12 (in Beaver) and again the following day July 1, 1987. age seven, Kevin -- age Fair dotes set In less than two months Beaver County will be in the midst of its County Fair. Lots of great and ex- citing activities have been planned. Contest, Talent Show, Family Night with a Great Dinner, Kids Day, Senior Citizens Day, Horse Pull, Dance and many other activities. The way to have a successful fair is for each county citizen to participate in some way. We all love Beaver County and we are proud we live here in this county so lets show it. We all have talents, so lets share them with each other at A Queen the fair. There is a place in the fair for many kinds of talents. Do you cook, sew, paint, carve wood, quilt, sing, dance or just enjoy sharing time iWGG academy, there should be not com for any officers. Councilman Davis suggested that Wayne Hardy would like to buy part of the property recently acquired by the City, next to his house. Councilman Davis will get a bid from him. Councilman Wiseman suggested a change in ordinance to state that an individual had 30 days to get rid of more than two dogs. Councilman Davis stated he felt it should be up to the officer to decide depending on the situation. Councilman Mayer made the motion to change the ordinance to read 30 days. Councilman Whitney seconded. Councilman Whitney, Mayer, Wiseman and Romine voted yes. Councilman Davis voted no. Councilman Whitney asked that the Council go Into closed meeting to discuss applications for jobs available. The regular meeting adjourned to closed meeting at 9:50 p.m. The closed session adjourned at 10:40 and the regular meeting resumed. Councilman Whitney made a motion that anyone holding a job as a City employee must reside in the City limits of Milford. Councilman Romine seconded. Councilman Davis, Whitney, Wiseman and Romine voted for. Councilman Mayter voted no. A motion was made by Councilman Mayer to approve the appointments of Connie Marshall, Recorder and Nedra Kennedy, Treasurer. Coun-mRomine seconded the motion. All were in favor. A motion was made by Councilman Mayer to approve Krlsten Mayer as court clerk. Councilman Davis seconded the motion. Councilman Davis, Wiseman and Mayer voted yes. Fun Ran July 4th The 2nd Annual 10K and 2 mile fun run will be sponsored by the Milford Valley Memorial Hospital beginning at 8 a.m. at the hospital on the 4th of July. Tee shirts and trophies will be a part of the registration benefits which is $8.00 and $10.00 the for day of the race. A registration form may be obtained at either the hospital or the Milford Medical Clinic. The "Fun Run" is one of several fitness and health programs sponby Milford Valley Memorial Hospital. screening clinics sponsored in sored connection with Holy Cross Hospital is another. The first of annual nutritional hospital week health fair was also conducted in May of this year. Health care related assem- blies were sponsored at the grade school and the high school during Hospital week also. As well as the hospital staff and the medical staff, E.M.T.'s, Gray Ladies and Candy Stripers contributed a great deal of effort to these events. |
