Principal Lee Pettey felt there was a need for a change because of student apathy in the past. Students were divided into two parties under the direction of Linda Cartwright, Kevin Barnes, Leon Gay, Dale Jensen and Debbie for Party One, and NickSwain Margaret Miller, Sherry Jensen and Donald Willden for Party Two. Party officers were chosen at an organizing convention on April 2. Party One is headed by Pattl Puffer, Chairman; Ryan Wunderllch Is Vice Chairman; and Robin Orton Secretary. Party Two Is led by Suzanne Morris, Chairman, Mikel White, Vice Chairman; and Stephanie Small, Secretary. On April 11 a nominating convention was held by each political party. Candidates were nominated and gave acceptance speeches. At this time the themes for both parties were revealed, and demonstrations were held in support of party activities and candidates. Each party selected its own name and motto. Party One selected the Union Pacific (The United Party) as the party nameAheme, and Party Two selected E.T.
