Show I - :: ' Joseph R. Murdock J, R. MURDOCK, CIVIC, BUSINESS LEADER, DIES Joseph R. Murdock, 85, former for-mer state legislator, merchant and civic leader, died at 11:30 p. m. Friday, March 27, in the Milford Valley Hospital, of causes incident to age. He was born May 19, 1884, in Beaver, to Joseph Riggs and Clara Farnsworth Murdock. He married Margaret Evans, Oct. 5, 1909, in Salt Lake City. He attended the Beaver City schools. He purchased the old Mansfield Mans-field Mercantile Co. in Beaver in 1905, operating the business until 1916. He was agent for International Harvester Co. until un-til 1918. He served as Beaver County Clerk for three years; as a member of the Milford Town Board from 1923 to 1927, and represented Beaver County in the Utah State Legislature in 1947 and 1948. . Mr. Murdock owned and operated op-erated the White Market in Milford from 1920 to 1946, and was engaged in the real estate and livestock business until a few years ago. He was state brand inspector for many years. An active Republican, he held many local, county and state offices in the Republican Party, and was delegate to the National Republican Convention Conven-tion at San Francisco in 1964. He was a charter member of the Milford Lions Club, served as president of the civic club in 1927-28 and as secretary in 1932-34. He was a member of Albert Pike Lodge No. 14, F. & A. M., the 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and El Kalah Shrine Temple! He was a member of Milford Lodge No. 42, I.O.O.F. Surviving are his widow, Milford; two daughters, Mrs. S. J. (Dorothy) Dunkley, Hillsborough, Hills-borough, Calif., and Mrs. J. F. (Betty) Ogburn, Yuba City, Calif.; three sons, Robert E. Murdock, Cherry Hill, N. J.; Gordon W. Murdock, Lubbock, Texas; and Joseph D. Murdock, San Jose, Calif.; 15 grandchildren grandchil-dren and six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, S. L. Murdock, Belvedere , Calif., and J. C. Murdock, Bakersfield, Calif. Funeral services, conducted Tuesday in the Milford LDS Chapel under direction of Bishop Richard Leon Jones, were as follows: Prelude and postlude music, Mrs. Edna Nichols. Invocation, Rev. Jim Sloan. Masonic graveside services were conferred by Albert Pike Lodge No. 14, F. & A. M., under un-der direction of Henry C. Garfield,' Gar-field,' worshipful master. Flowers were cared for by ladies of the Relief Society. Pallbearers were H. L. Tolley, Tol-ley, Warren Johnson, Edgai Moore, Wallace Fotheringham John Jimenez and Dave Glenn |
