Show J. M. HUGHES DIES AFTER HEART ATTACK J. Marion Hughes, 65, Mil-ford Mil-ford high school teacher for 35 years, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Beaver County Hospital, Hos-pital, alter a heart attack. Throughout his life, Mr. Hughes had been an active Church and civic worker. He served as president of the Y M M I A for 12 years, Mil-ford Mil-ford Ward Sunday School Superintendent Su-perintendent for 8 years, and Assistant Stake Sunday School Superintendent for 5 years. He served a term as a member mem-ber of the Milford City Council, Coun-cil, was a past president of the Milford Lions Club, Past Post Commander and Past District Dis-trict Commander of The American Amer-ican Legion, and had held other civic offices. He was a school teacher for 40 years, the last 36 years at Milford, retiring in June, 1962. He taught mechanic arts, sci1 ences, mathematics, and was guidance counselor at Milford for several years. He was a partner, with his wife, in operation of Hughes Style and Floral Shoppe. J. Marion Hughes was born Feb. 23, 1897, at Farmington, a son of Jonathan and Minnie Christensen Hughes. Oct. 10, 1919, he married Naomi Stephens Steph-ens in the Logan LPS Temple. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Doris Johnson of Logan; four sons. Lt. Col. J. Stanley Hughes, Shreveport, La.; Wallace Hughes .Redding, Calif.; Capt. Vernon Hughes, Omaha, Nebr., and Capt. Nolan Hughes, Austin, Texas; 21 grandchildren; a brother, Irvine Hughes, Farmington, and a sister, sis-ter, Mrs, Mary Rencher, Bur-ley, Bur-ley, Idaho. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted at 2 p. m. Saturday, in the Milford LDS Church, with Milford Post No. 16, The American Amer-ican Legion, conferring military honors. Friends may call at the Southern Utah Mortuary Friday Fri-day evening and Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Milford City Cemetery. |
