Lane was a state champion for three years - 1980, 1981, and 1982. He was named Outstanding Wrestler at the state tournament in 1981. He also made All American. : Lane only lost five matches in five years. State competition in 1982 took place only three days after the death of his sister. Additionally, Lane moved up one weight class in order to give a team mate a-better chance. He still won. Brett Thomas, undefeated for the year, has watched all of Lane’s wrestling tapes. Since September, Lane has given 18 inspirational speeches. He writes the material and Bonnie Hardy delivers the speeches. “He doesn’t feel sorry for himself.
