There is a 1996 Chevy, Utah license number MUT 111, in the parking lot with the lights on.” The dilemma....drop out of the line and turn the lights off immediately or take the chance that the battery will hold for another half hour. It’s a new car.....of course, it will be alright. At exactly 12:07 P.M., Jane reached the vehicle. She turned the lights off, stowed her treasurers, got behind the wheel and turned the key........No problem, auto club will send someone right over. By 2:10 P.M., the car was running again. “Can’t believe I left town with only three checks. Can’t waste the day....come on credit cards.” By 9:00 P.M. Jane had everything on her list, including the ever so hard to find ‘dingle-ditty’ that the baby just couldn’t live without. By the time Jane returned home, the family was sleeping. She took advantage of the solitude to install batteries and check out the ‘Whatchamadoodle’. Oh, no......a part is missing. No problem.....Willy-Mart will exchange it for another one. Of course, that line was longer than the check-out line. Wonderful......one gym shoe is a size 7 and the other is asize 9. She waited how long in line to pay for them? Yes, that was the store where the shopping cart dented the rear fender. She will go back tomorrow. Jane took two aspirin and went to bed. After a leisurely breakfast with the family, Helen checked her shopping list. She contacted some of the local crafters for hand-made, one of a kind gifts for friends and relatives. Next, she traveled a whole six blocks to downtown Milford, arriving at about 10:15 A.M. At Milford Drug and Gift, she found a good selection of books, cards, Precious Moments, porcelain dolls, and personal care gifts. With video games and other gift items from Solutions, Helen checked off more names. New glasses from Eye Town would brighten up Grandpa’s Christmas. Next stop: Veda’s. While there, she learned that Julie has a great deal on tanning passes....the perfect gift for the teen who has everything. Husband Henry would like that recliner in Sam’s Furniture......and she might just hint that Santa could bring a new sofa to go with it. They will deliver. By 10:52 A.M., Helen had made her way to Country Floral for some , plants and floral arrangements. One stop....all in the same block. No checkout lines. Helen secured the gifts in the trunk, went home to pick up the children for lunch. After discussing the merits of the Station Restaurant, Hong Kong, and Old Hickory, the family decided on La Villa Mexican Restaurant. Afterward, Helen and the children went all the way across the street to L & L Supply to shop for the tools dad will be delighted to see under the tree. Next was the long trek up Main Street to A &F. The children each “adopted a snowman”. They _ chose to spend $30 each instead of combining their donation for one large gift. This gives more children ahappy Christmas, and gifts are kept closer to equal. Helen then took the children home, to allow them, under the capable direction of 15-year-old Harmony, the opportunity to wrap gifts for geriatric patients in the local hospital. She picked up Henry, and they returned to A & F for some toy shopping. Little Henry also wants a ‘Whatchamadoodle’ for Christmas. They paid ., $90.00 for the toy, but the clerk at the hometown store advised the shoppers that parts were sometimes missing. They examined the purchase, after which the ‘Whatchamadoodle’ and other toys purchased ai the store were giftwrapped free of charge.
