Mother decided to open up a beauty shop and she though it was time to purchase a home. So she went looking and, when dad was offto work she purchased her present home. I remember spending hours peeling off layers and layers of wall paper. She probably had second thoughts then and maybe dad did too.” “Dad decided to run for the office of Mayor in 1952. (Dorothy’s version: Ray was watching the street crew fill in a mud hole in front of our house when he decided to improve the efficiency of the city. “I think Pll run for mayor, and line those SOB’s up and make them earn their money,” he said.) “Mother stood behind him (actually by his side-she never stood behind anyone) and supported him all the way. During his twelve years as mayor, she traveled all over the US with him to support and bring Milford into the lime light. All of this traveling, horse racing and other publicity getting activities was paid for out of their pockets --- not Milford’s. She entertained Senators, newspaper reporters, governors, probably even people she didn't really want to. She always welcomed them to her home with good western hospitality. She served as the County Democratic Secretary and was a delegate to the State convention.” Dorothy reminisced about the day Ray was invited to sit next to JFK at a convention, an honor earned by receiving the highest percentage of votes of any mayor in attendance. “Dorothy has always taken an interest in Milford and her Country. to make sure she got her absent-tee ballot for this coming election. She told me not too long ago She knows that her vote counts and if she doesn't exercise that right she shouldn't complain.” And......she is still keeping track of Milford City government. She recently called the Monitor to indigently pee out that Milford has hired a city recorder who doesn’t live in the city. “She has always attended public meetings to fi nd out more about what was happening in her community. She keeps an open mind until she hears all the information, then makes up her mind, and you won't change it either, unless there is a good reason. She has always wanted what was best for Milford, not necessarily what was best for her. AND SHE'S GOING TO LET YOU oe WHERE SHE STAND Because of this, she's not always easy to live with, but we love her anyway.” “Ray passed away in 1967 with pancreatic cancer. She married Delmar G.
