Show AUGUST 16, 1996 The Royalty. Robyn Evans, 2nd Attendant; Jennifer Baker, Miss Beaver County; Rebecca Farnsworth, 1st Attendant. London Hunt - 2nd Pinca tunior Te alent Contest Deputy John Chambers and Max (Pre-requisite reading: “Where's Alice” signed by Max Chambers and published as a Letter to the Editor in the August 8, 1996 issue of The Beaver Press. Senior Division Talent Winner, Scott Robinson Dear Max, “8 Congratulations on your promotion to spokes “person” for the Beaver County Sheriff's Department. Did you get an extra _ doggie biscuit? In your letter, Max, you referred to allegations concerning a‘‘landowner” and a “trespasser”. You did not, however, clarify that the landowner purchased Section 16 Township 28 South, Range 18 West, at a Beaver County tax sale for approximately $15,000. And.....the trespasser is a member of the Immanuel Foundation, Fraternity of Preparation, religious organization that purchased the property in 1985 for $170,000. With natural appreciation, water and improvements, including a reservoir, the property currently has an estimated value upwards of $500,000. The religious organization owned the property outright, with no Congratulations mortgage. to the On May 26, 1994, at the time of the tax sale, it was duly noted that the property was under litigation with 2 title 42 civil rights law suits pending. Federal #s 94-C-151 and 94-C-496 have, to this date, not been adjudicated. : Since establishing their church and filing the charter with Beaver County in 1985, Foundation members have ....for more than 10 years “importuned for redress and redemption as inspired Fair Board County Crew Volunteers by Doctrine and Covenants 101:76-95” to have their property helped make this a success! eis Jud Marshall, Ist place - powerwheels removed from the county tax roles. All court actions, whether plaintiff or defendant, have been pro se, maintaining status of a belligerent complainant. Simply put, the property was (or, depending on the outcome of the above mentioned civil suits and additional ones filed since the alleged assault...is) held in common | by members who have taken vows of poverty and consecrated their - worldly goods to the church. Their religious belief does not allow that they make application to government for the right.....and./or tax exempt status....that they insist was granted by God, by the U. S. Constitution and by the Utah State Constitution. Church members accept no monetary support from the government......no ocial security, welfare, medical aid or grants of any kind. When they were displaced from their homes at Vance Spring, they asked a for no government assistance. To that point, the Vance Spring issue was merely controversial. It moved into subject matter that changes history when a man was “allegedly” beaten, shot at, and threatened with — murder. Tony Hamilton gave a taped statement to the Beaver County Sheriff's Department after he was treated at Milford Valley Hospital. (Again, no government assistance or welfare. Hamilton paid the medical bill.) He also filed a complaint with U. S. Attorney Scott Matheson, Jr., in which an elected county official was named in conjunction with the assault. No charges were filed against the assailants by either the Beaver County Attorney or the U. S. Attorney. If this assault is ignored.....if Foundation members do not have " their day in court regarding their religious position.......if the alleged involvement of an elected official remains in question....-your personal property rights, Max..... and mine, will be a little less secure. Jeannie Yardley, Ist place'4-H Fitting and Showing Max, I will have to admit that I was more than a little bit surprised by your other comment charging a lack of interest in other issues before the court. The extreme secrecy surrounding law enforcement does effectively “protect” residents from knowing what criminal actions are evident in the community. Taking your suggestion quite seriously, I attempted to attend the full court session on August 9. Judge Eves, however, cleared the courtroom because of sensitive material. Max, in your new capacity as spokes “person” for the department, it is pertinent to consider that | residents would like to know WHO Additionally, if there are individuals the drug dealers are. in the community otherwise ‘soliciting’ young boys or girls, that information should be available to parents. Parents....believe it or not, if they know WHO and WHAT the dangers are, can be quite resourceful and capable when it comes to protecting their children. If law enforcement chooses to keep this information a secret (weekly reports that contain no identification and only vague reference to incidents), are they not also choosing to accept the full | responsibility for the future actions of those individuals charged with such crimes? One more request, Max: Please speak to John and explain that, as an officer of Beaver County, he is inviting liability by indicating. ....as he did in the courthouse last Friday......that he can ; ; Cherstie Bealer, Grand Champion, and Brad Isaacson, Reserve Champion, honors in the Lamb category of the Livestock Show. Market Steers: Brady Carter, Reserve and Heidi Yardley, Grand Champion use that position to satisfy a personal grudge. Really, you should . explain that his reference to a “#&**c&|\ contest with the sheriff's department” was rather vulgar and showed a total lack of imagination and vocabulary. /s/ Alice |
