Hats and Shoes by Reva Albrecht - Hats and shoes were luxuries. Hats were made from straw or cloth and trimmed with feathers or bits of ribbon. Some of them were very beautiful. Susan Roberts was one of the best milliners in the town Sofia Wession had a hat shop in one room of the Sarah Bohn home and was very artistic at trimming hats. Mrs. Mary E. Lightner also sold hats at their home. Moccasins were made from old overalls or buckskins. Leather was very rare but was used whenever possible. Men attended dances barefoot and had a wonderful time. They herded sheep and cattle on the hillside and didn't notice the rocks and stickers on their bare feet The first man to go into the shoe business was a gentleman by the name of Mr. Wecdea It was recalled by some of the older people that a Mr. Simmons was also a shoe cobbler. The children usually wore shoes of moccasins that had been made by their fathers. i $159.w 7TH GRADE 15Q9T BETTER Jake Albrecht Hyrum Anderton Richard Bartlett Kolby Blackner Heather Bradshaw Candace Bradshaw Robbie Bradshaw Jami Brown Silvia Dorame Nicole Griffiths Crystal Hall Rick Jarvis Kevin Marchant Ben Peterson Derek Solberg Anthony White Mitchell Willden Julie Williams Lee Yardley Jeannie Yardley MAY 1. 1997 MinersvUle Families For Edncation Saving UPCfs to Aid st Hinersviile School Minersville - Members of the Minersvilk FFE are currently UPC's (Universal collecting Product Code", also known as "Bar Codes") from a wide selection of name brands as part of a new plan called the Power of Purchasing Program.
