If our officers are inadequate in number, and perhaps they are, to properly care for the territory under their jurisdiction, which is perhaps the reason that, accordingto reports, little has been done to apprehend the offenders. If this is the case then additional deputives should be appointed for at least such time until these offenders can be rounded up and placed in the penitentiary where they belong. Men of questionable character are allowed to roam up and down thd streets, according to reports, and we see them ourselves, all night long when they should either be given a ticket out of town, or put in jail. Citizens who pay taxes are entitled to protection, as far as humanly possible. A man's chickens, his turkeys on his farm, his wheat, his harness, his gasoline and extra tires from his car, clothing and money out of the homes and every conceivable thing are being stolen until actually a man cannot leave his car in front of his house for twenty minutes with any degree of safety.
