Contests held at Salt Lake City, Saturday, of last week, Elwin Garfield, of Tremonton, and a representative of the Bear River Stake, won first place in 'M' Men public speaking, his subject being the M. I. A. slogan, "We stand for physical, mental and spiritual health through the observance of the Word of Wisdom." The Vanguards of the Tremonton ward, also representing the stake and the Ogden Gateway Council district, at Salt Lake, won second place on the consolation team in the grand finals. The girls chorus from this ward and the mixed quartette of the Garland ward also participated in the greatest chorus ever assembled in the M. I. A. Musical Festival, which was put on the air over a national broadcast, Saturday afternoon. The stake officers and the officers and participants of the Tremonton ward Mutual can justly feel proud of the record achieved to win such a distinction among thousands of participants throughout the entire church. The plans and outlines adopted at the M. I. A. Convention just closed calls for even greater activity in the future along the development of young people of the church in every worthy activity, those listed above representing only a small part of the activities.
