A few simple precautions taken at the beginning of winter will save a lot of worry and perhaps costly re pair bills later in the season. The Association, Glycerine Producers' whose members make all the standard radiator glycerine used for purposes in this country, has just issued a booklet containing sugges tions for winter driving that will be styles-Gen- uine helpful to every motorist Before cold weather begins, the Association points out, all the old differential, transmission and crankofcase oil and grease should be cleaned out and replaced with lighter grades. The grades of grease and oil customar ily used in summer are too heavy for winter driving. The storage battery should be checked at the start of winter to prepare it for the extra heavy strain of hard starting. It is also advis able to increase the generator chargTO ing rate to take care of the heavier drain of winter driving, and the proper setting of distributor points and spark plugs will increase ease in starting and aid proper combustion. Slippery roads make proper brake adjustment absolutely essential to safety. Unequalized brakes are often the cause of dangerous skidding. After a summer of continuous driving it is generally found that brakes. re quire attention. And it's best to have a set of tire" chains under the rear-sea-t long before slippery roads are likely to be encountered. You never can tell when the first snow will fall. Most carburators require special adjustment for winter driving. A sum mer mixture is not generally suitable for cold weather and may result in frequently stalling the motor.. choose Most important of all is proper at tention to the cooling system. The radiator should be carefuly examined for leaks that may have developed during the past few months of strenuous driving. You don't want your to leak away and leave your radiator unprotected. The cooling system should be cleaned and flushed, and hose and pump packing should be checked for tightness and general condition. If you use radiator 33 glycerine for freeze protection you can have your radiator filled now, Even if nature should slip in a few "Good To more days of warm weather, the user of glycerine solution needn't worry for the only evaporation that takes place is that of the water. One filling of radiator glycerine give you adequate freeze protection throughout the N winter provided the cooling system does not leak and the radiator has not been filled too full.
