When we take a trip on the train, we 150 plan on an all day ride to go As the miles, about 6 hours. train stops at a station, about every 30 miles or 1 hour travel, there Is a mad dash of people. November 7, 1S47 It seems all the people get off C. P. O. Invercargill the train and run like mad to New Zealand the refreshment room for a cup Dear Mr. Rytting, of tea. They drink more tea here I would like to thank you very than any other country in the much for sending me the "Lead- world per person. er". I now receive the paper as You can't buy food or drinks often as ships arrive In New Zea- on the train. In about eight or land which Is about every ten minutes the train gets on month. I truly enjoy reading it Its way for another hour beand seeing what the home town fore we again see the mad dash Jesse Roberts Writes From New Zealand When I am through with the paper I give it to friends and they enjoy looking through it. I guess there are few people in the U. S. who knew much New Zealand. I'd lite to take this opportunity to tell a little about a small but great country. It Isn't much larger than the State of Utah. It so happens that I am at the extreme south end of the country and it is said that Invercargill is the southern most city in the world, so I'll tell you about this end of the world. Most people think of New Zealand as a tropical island with the grass skirt and hot wet weather. It is not that at all, but an English inhabited country with cold winters and mild summers. It depends on lots of rain and belteve me it gets plenty. Also in the high country and in winter time there Is often snow. New Zealand produces more wool than one would think. It ranks third in the world for production of wool and sheep. Farming is the principal occupa tion and most Industry depends on the farm in ome way or another, I have seen more sheep in the past six months than I ever hope to see again the rest of my life. Perhaps we people from the U. S. would think these people "old fashioned." However as we get to know them Jbetter, we soon find ourselves doing some of the same "old fashioned" things. Such as their mode of transportation. A bicycle is the common thing to go to town on (I have one and ride It everywhere). Very few people own cars because of the high cost of the people are doing. a-b- " The M I. Yes, they are happy to scrub them out by hand. I have my share of it also. The soap is anything but easy on the hands, so we see few snow white hands among the women, here. Most New Zealanders have a good home and eat very well. I like the bread here much better than you buy at home. The bread here is like Mother makes. The people dress warm and conservative, with little change in style the year around. Most evenings are spent around the fireplace, except on Friday and everyone and all the kids go to town. No stones are open on Saturday or Sunday. Saturday is for sports and Sunday they stay home. The people are kind and generous, always ready to help in time of need. All the women and girls learn how to sew at an early age and also the art of cooking. When people have over night guests, breakfast in bed is the usual way they treat them. (I like that). Yes, New Zealand is a fine; country with lots of wonderful people. Next to Utah it is al most the best. Thank you again for the ' "Leader." j Sincerely, Elder Jesse J. Roberts Certain books, certain plays, certain movies, like champagne and caviar are made for certain people. They Instinctively recognize that extra "something" which marks the difference between the ordinary and the distinctive. This message is for them It's about a movie. A movie called "Stairway To Heaven." A movie of which Bosley Crowther, film critic of the New York Times, says, " 'Stairway To Heaven' deserves the highest recommendation of any film of the year It's one of the year's best" . . . And here we reach our point . . . "5talrway To Heaven" filmed in the new Chromatic Technicolor, has every thrill the screen can bring . . . Romance . . . Adventure . . . Comedy and magnificent color . . . and features David Nlven. Raymond Massey and Kim Hunter, and It is the superb acting of the.se three distinguished persons that make it worthy of the attention of the more discriminating and intelligent of our patrons. "Stairway To Heaven" come direct from advanced-price reserved seat, engagements in New York, Los Angeles and Boston. By means of much bargaining we have secured this fine picture for the Liberty screen at our rcprular prices. We may be wrong, but we believe you will enjoy every moment of "Stairway To Heaven." There may have been prettier love stories, more romantic comedies, but never one quite so unusual or thrilling. This engagement will be played Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, December 21, 22 and 23. We do not think the smaller children will understand or appreciate it.
