Show STANDARD. ANTI-POLYGAM- Y who thing to say, but a young girl The Women of Utah. No. 6. The third class those who believe or pretend they believe in polygamy as a divine ordinance are the most degraded of all the women of Utah. This class may be divided into fanatics and hypocrites. The fanatical ones are degraded, because they sacrifice reason, modesty, happiness and all a true woman holds If you dear, to a false principle. try to reason with them, and talk to them of the unhappiness existing in polygamy, and its evil effects, thty will answer you that the flesh must be mortified, and the more a woman sacrifices in this world, the greater will be her reward in the next. It is hard for a woman to share the af fections of her husband with another, they will admit, but they will add that it is only for a little time, and the glory she will obtain in the hereafter will compensate her a thousand fold for the trials she has In regard to endured in this life. the many evils of polygamous life, and the unhappiness it causes, they will tell you that these things exist because the divine principle is not carried out as God intended it should be. If polygamy is practiced properly, there is no need of unhappiness ; but should we condemn a principle because some people do not understand it, or know how to carry it out in a proper manner ? A husband certainly should treat all his wives alike, and not show any favoritism ; and it is the duty of the wives to bear and forbear with each other;. but if they fail to do this, is that a competent argument against the fact that God revealed polygamy to Joseph Smith ? If men and women fail to do Gods will, is that to say that God has never revealed his will to men! They are willing to admit that polygamy has its sorrows and evils, which they insist are produced by a wrong mode of practice; but they are too ignorant and fanatical to see that the system itself is responsible for all its effects. The entire burden of their song is, that the cross must be borne in order that the crown may be worn. Is it not enough to make a woman almost ashamed that she is a woman to see so many of her sex deliberately rejecting the pure teachings of Christ and holding with ,so much tenacity to the degrading doctrines of a loose, immoral soi disant prophet, of whom Brigham Young himself said, 'That he was of mean birth, wild, intemperate, dishonest and tricky. But the very worst class of women, and those who do the most inwomen jury, are the hypocrites who are too intelligent to believe in the revelation, and who cannot close their eyes to the evil effects of the system. Some of these women were brought into Mormonisin at an early age by their parents, others were perhaps born in it, and in some cases were forced by circumstances to marry in polygamy, and being, as it were, lost, their lives ruined, they t. can never regain their own They are degraded, because they lie and deceive, and being themselves shameless, they endeavor to drag others down to their own level. In reference to one of them, she said: The idea of that woman coming to me and talking religion , prating about the faith of my father and the pure doctrines of this holy church, when she knew that I was well awTare of the fact that she was deceiving her husband and living as plural wife to my own father. And, furthermore, whenever she knew of a young girl who was intelligent and independent enough to think for herself, she would never rest until she got that young girl in the chains of polygamy. I am glad to say that this class of women are not very numerous, but there are sufficient of them to obey the bidding of the priesthood, and assist in keeping in bondage the den luded and women of Utah. Of these we shall have more to say hereafter. Athena. down-trodde- Look at our Preminm List. SALT ME and r warfare against the vicious doctrines taught and . practiced in the Mormon Church.
