The city has provided optional recycling services for more than a year, but had been considering making it city-wide, in part be cause the participation rate has been lower than hoped. Mayor Heber Thompson said he supported recycling, but that he did not feel a coasensus from the council about making the program city-wide. Reece DeMille, from Allied Waste, the company which provides the recycling pickup in the community, told the council that 14 percent of the homes in the city were participating in recyling. He said the number was increasing. "Last July it was 11 percent," he said. Residents pay $4.50 a month for the service, which is provided every other week. "If it were mandatory, we would be able to go down a little bit," DeMille said. "I also tried some different foods." Abigail, age 9, was one of about 30 visitors who attended "A Journey Jour-ney to the Cross," an Easter program pro-gram celebrating the last week of Christ's life. It was held at the Community Presbyterian Church in American Fork. Participants "journeyed" to stations representing represent-ing different biblical events that occurred the week before the crucifixion. The event was organized by Paula Yates, leader of the wom en's Bible study. "I attended the lYesbytenan women's coordinating team meeting meet-ing for all of Utah," she said. "One of the churches in Brigham City was doing the program and we loved it." Bible study members began preparing pre-paring for the event in February by selecting scriptures, sewing costumes, and preparing props. Debbie Maughan researched Passover foods and stoneware so she could provide an authentic Last Supper, which included goat cheese, bitter herbs, and sesame seed paste. American Fork works with Home Builders Association Barbara Christiansen NORTH COUNTY STAFF American Fork is turning over a new leaf with the Utah Valley Home Builders Association. After being ranked at the bottom bot-tom of the association's list of cities with which to work in the county, the city has begun discussions discus-sions with the group in an effort to rectify the situation. Ron Rydman, spokesman for the group, said it was a mutual situation, in that both groups were trying to help the other. "We had a meeting with the staff and the mayor," he said. -We talked about issues that we could work together on and help each other out. I see it as a two-way two-way street." Rydman said he had been working with other communities communi-ties in a similar mariner and that he expected the situation to be r.TT revived. "I am quite optimistic," he said. The s-urvey done by the m.-nv bers of the association was conducted con-ducted on an anonymous basis and there was no way for Rydman Ryd-man to f ollow up on the claims presented, he said City officials did pursue vme of them, nrwever, according to J.H. Hadf itld of the city's engi-ryring engi-ryring department.
