Capelli Supply & Salon Sa-lon is sometimes called a transition salon. The public gets the services of fully trained cosmetologists at a discounted price, while those cosmetologists receive some much-needed experience. "We are a cosmetology organization, orga-nization, starting with school," owner Kurt Robinson said. "We take new students, get them educated, trained and licensed in cosmetology. They are ready to start their careers." Students begin at Capelli Institute in Pleasant Grove, then may obtain real-world experience ex-perience at the American Fork salon. Robinson said studies showed 65 percent of cosmetology graduates grad-uates are not practicing their profession a year later. "It isn't that they are not good stylists," he said. "It is the transition period. It is their first job. Most of these students are very young. "When they exit school they leave at the top of the class, then they become rookies. Most salon owners aren't apt to take on a rookie." Those owners are looking for stylists who bring a clientele and that comes through marketing mar-keting one of the projects his transition salon encourages, he said. "The stylists can spend six to nine months while they perfect their marketing skills and build a clientele," he said. "They can't stay here for a career. Another group of graduates will be coming com-ing in." Customers, either walk-ins or those with appointments, will receive the tops in care, he said. "Our students are leaving our school having done more hair than most stylists do their first two years of business," Robinson said.
