One day not so long ago, which was ta special one for Olen and.I";i decided to fix a special dinfter . and nave ' everything ev-erything real romantic when he came home In the evening, so ... , As soon as he had gone to work I cleared up the table, washed the breakfast dishes tidied up the house and hustled down to the market to find Just the right kind of special meat for dinner. There? was none at the first market, still none to be had at the second and by the time I reached the third one" I was ready to settle for chicken. I rounded up some fruit, picked pick-ed out some good, vegetables and some fresh tomatoes and a hundred other things and hurried hur-ried back home. Made a salad dressing, peded the tomatoes, put the fruit in the refrigerator to chill and got out the good linen. I glimpsed in., the mirror and decided I had better roll up my hair. Gordon Next the silver looked a Jlttle tarnished so I gave it a touch-ip touch-ip polish job and cut some flow-e'rs flow-e'rs from the garden and filled all the vase's. I hoped for a cool evening and laid the wood in the fireplace: fire-place: Cleared all the litter off the buffed and fixed sandwiches for the children's lunch. Picked out some new candles, placed in the" holders on the buffet and put some good music on the" stereo set. I checked everything downstairs down-stairs to see' if I had forgotten anything . . . all was OK. I rushed upstairs, took the rollcTs out of my hair, Jumped in the shower and jumped out again nice and clean. At this point I decided I would look as sharp as possible so I struggled Into my two-way Instrument of torture, and filed and polished my nails. . I combed may hair out"ln a new fashion. I fushed downstairs again, answered the telephone, patted and replaced the cushions on the couch,-picked up a sweatshirt sweat-shirt and a pair of shoes left In the living room by the latest boy to pass through that way and advanced to the kitchen. I put on an apron, fixed the hlcken and slipped it into the ven, removed the apron and checked the bathroom for clean towels. '. ' X thought I'd better fix my hair another way. I freshened my lipstick and decided to put a little more "girlish" color on my cheeks. Repowdered my nose1 and sent the kids off to the picture show. I shook a little sachet down my neck and shook the front of my dress to get the right faint fragrance and I ran upstairs up-stairs again. I changed my shoes and answered the telephone for about the seventeenth time' and fixed my hair in the good old way. I notlcd that it was time for him to be home so I rushed downstairs. He came in ... took one look at the hoitte and grumbled, "who's coming." I assured him this was Just for us and I fed him, waited on him, turned on the soft music and flattered him. As we sat on the couch before be-fore the fire, he sighed, "Isn't lb GROUND BEEF MINUTE MAID ORARGE JUICE TIP TOP FRUIT DRII1KS FROST and FLAME PIES w W mm wm I v , .: 'ft . v . .' HEARD ON A COFFEE BREAK "Oolf, golf, golf!" walled the wife as her husband started for the door , with his clubs. "I rt'ally believe I'd drop dead if you spent one Sunday at, home."' "Now dear," he answered, there's no use talking like that, fou know you can't bribe me." For the benefit of those who do not play golf, a mixed scotch foursome has nothing to do with an alcoholic beverage. TRIBUTE TO A GOOD MAN On the return home from the trip we took, I was very "sad to hear of the death of my neighbor, neigh-bor, and good friend, Henry McNeill. Mc-Neill. He was an institution in our neighborhood, a favorite with all the children, large and small, dealing with them every day at his little grocery store. He was interesting to talk to. He seemed to be able to always know Just the right thing to say if you ever had a difficulty to discuss with him. He helped solve "many problems for those of us in the neighborhood, with his kindnesses and words of klsdom.
