Rats1 W untold damage around poultry yards, granaries, stored vegetables, veg-etables, food supplies, markets and grocery stores. As a public service, rats should be killed, and rubbish piles and other natural habitat of rats should be cleaned up, it is pointed out by H. V. Swenson, district dis-trict agricultural inspector. Marine Reserves According to word received from Captain Con D. Silard, head of the United States Marine Corps Recruiting Recruit-ing station at Salt Lake City, Utah, Harold Dale Beck of American Fork has reenllsted in -the United States Marine Corps reserves at Salt Lake City. Mr. Beck Joined the Marine Corps on April 5, 1927. for four years, and then Joined the Marine Corps reserve for a period of four years. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson, Tuesday, were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Long and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson spent the week-end in Ophir, visiting visit-ing Mrs. Johnson's brother and family. PHONE 124 f Young Farmers Attend Convention In Salt Lake City Last Saturday, representatives of the local Young Fanners association associa-tion attended a state convention of the organization in Salt Lake City. Ralph Spencer, Berdean Spencer, Wilson Hayward and Rulon Draper were the local delegates. The convention con-vention was attended by some. 135 representatives from the 30 units in the state. Officers to head the state asso-ci asso-ci talon were named as follows: Scott Hawley of Monroe, president; Henry Hen-ry Miller of Manti, vice president; and Edison Stevens of Mantl, secretary sec-retary and treasurer. Mark Nichols, state director of agriculture education, gave the welcoming wel-coming address. The Farmer units gave reports on their progress. Jones, chairman of the county AAA committee. He reports that 18 applications for payments earned under the 1939 program have been approved. These payments amount to $2517. o farmer in all he does to establish himself in the farming business. At the regular meeting of the local Young Farmers association, held Thursday, March 7, at the American Fork high school, two guest speakers, Mr. Fred W. Merrill, Mer-rill, director of agriculture trade relations, re-lations, and Mr. Dudroe, purchasing agent for Safeway chain stores, were "present. : Mr. Merrill declared hat, of crops that will grow in Utah, county, this district can grow them best. He also pointed out that better market-tag- methods, such as farmers' cooperatives, co-operatives, are needed, declaring that farmers should unite to grade and set the price of crops rather , than let the buyer grade and set a price to each grower. Mr. Dudroe said that if quality piofiucts were raised, and properly graded, that there would be a satisfactory satis-factory market for them.
